I don't think Pallomi has an identity crisis. She is just obsessed with Uma. When we let our obsessions take over us, we become things we aren't. I think she started to change when she heard Kanak saying that Uma will throw her out on his own when Uma told Kanak to leave with the jewelry and property.
That scene kept on playing in her mind and she truly believed Kanak doesn't deserve Uma. And that Rambha thing was just a manifestation of all her thoughts that she deserves him more.
Initially, she intrigued me. She is in every way the perfect companion for Uma. It would have been interesting if Pallomi was Uma's friend and had some place in his life or in a more modern setting, it would have made for some great conflicts. Now she is just reduced to a puppet in someone else's hands.
One more interesting thing about Pallomi is that she always needs to be pushed to do things. She always needs someone to plot for her. Before it was Suman now it is Masi. She is an ideal follower but she lacks the brains to go after what she wants. She does not lack the courage though, cos she does what Masi says to the T no matter how dangerous it is.
It is only Uma she wants or the idea of her being with Uma. She is obsessed with the idea more than Uma itself.
