If sources are to believed Kundan Shah is keen to cast Urmila Matondakar for his film Masquerade . Seems like Mallika's exit from the film will save Urmila Matondkar's fading stardom.
Initially Mallika Sherawat was signed for the lead role but she wanted some changes in the script which was not acceptable by director Kundan Shah. She had some creative differences with Shah due to which she opted out of the project. After Mallika's exit, the producers of the film, The Indian Film Company too backed out.
We now hear that Kundan Shah is searching for a new actress to play the lead role. He has spoken to some top league actresses but is yet to sign one. Masquerade is the story of a prostitute who becomes a politician. It's a female-oriented film and promises to be a challenging role for the lead actress.
Sources inform that Kundan Shah recently had a meeting with Urmila as he feels she is apt for the character. Urmila is yet to give her consent. Hopefully if everything goes well Urmila will play a prostitute-turned-politician in the film.
It can be recalled that when Preity Zinta was going through the same lean phase in her career, Kundan Shah's unconventional film Kya Kehna made abig difference to her career. Will Shah's work the same magic for Urmi? Let's hope.
