CHAPTER 3


Roli and Sid start walking through the corridor to reach her department. While Roli is nervous and tensed, Siddhant is carefree and unaffected as always. Roli is walking in front while he's indulged in the silly job of flirting with every girl who passes through the corridor. Definitely, what he aims is just fun and sadly, all girls know that quite well. Yet, all thanks to his flawless looks, he's managing to get undivided attention from all. Not to mention, Roli is probably the one who's not enjoying all these and is flaring her nostrils, seeing his stupid acts.


"hi Pinky, hi Rinky!' Sid wishes as two girls walk past them in the corridor.


"hi Sid!' they wish back and walks away while Roli turns back and pauses giving Sid a grave look.


"Can you just stop your pinky pinky ponky and come over? I'm getting late!' she yells.


"Of course! walk.' says Sid grabbing her elbow, paying no heeds to her anger.


"By the way, the girls in your college are really pretty.' Sid comments hanging his arm on Roli's shoulder and taking a look of the girls walking through the corridor.


"Oh really? But let me tell you darling, those girls have equally healthy brothers as well! So better keep your eyes off them if you wish to remain in your good form. ' Roli comments ready to break in to laughter while Sid pouts and looks away.


A bit later at the staff room. Roli turns back twice or thrice to see Sid as he waits outside the staff room, letting her go in with the record. Sid chuckles and gives her a thumbs up as Roli watches him worriedly.


"Just go.' he murmurs to her rolling his eyes while she turns to the teachers hooked either to books or their phones. Not to mention Prof. Arora sitting at the leftmost corner seems like a Dracula in disguise to her. She takes a final look of Sid and tiptoes to Arora's chair.


"Good Morning Sir.' she wishes in a low voice fearing his reaction. Any other situation, she would have never bowed down her head before anyone but this time, getting through this semester is very important and she very well knows that it isn't possible without Arora's mercy. So she's being humble or at least trying to be so. Meanwhile Arora raises his head and watches Roli with a smug smile.


"Whoa!! Look who's here! Roli Dwivedi in college???? This is something new!' says Arora sarcastically while Roli grins at him and turns back to see Sid who's in all smiles.


"My practical record is complete sir.' says Roli handing him the copy while Arora remains neutral.



"Record? which record???' Arora questions as if he knows nothing while Roli suppresses her desire to knock off his jaw and tries to be calm.


"Woh, third semester practical record. Today was the last day.' Roli almost murmurs.


"Oh that...' Arora begins in an amused tone. "but I think that was supposed to be submitted at 10 A.M today.' he pauses again as he takes a look of his watch and rolls his eyes. "Oh no! It's 10:20 dear. Sorry, you can't submit it now.' says him tapping his chin with a pen.


"Sir, please.' Roli pleads with a puppy face while Arora's normal expression turns to a fierce scowl.


"What do you think of me? Hmm? First of all, you're a rare guest in class and now you want me to accept your record in spite of being late? Do you think it's fair?' he questions being hyper. Roli bites her tongue and slightly turns to see Sid with an 'I don't know what to do now' face. Sid thinks for a while and then directly enters to the staff room, surprising Roli.


"Good morning sir.' says Sid as he pauses beside Roli, in front of Arora's desk.


"Why're you here?' Roli questions him in a barely audible voice.


"Shut up!' Sid murmurs under his breath and flashes a cheesy grin to Arora.



"Who're you and what're you doing here? I'm sure you're not a microbiology student.' Arora states lifting up his spectacles a little, while watching Sid keenly.


"Areyy sir, you don't me? I'm Siddhant. Roli's best friend. Just ask anyone in the college. Everyone knows me! I'm that famous!' Sid boasts while Roli nudges his elbow with a worried face, not wanting him to further mess up the already messed up situation.


"So? What should I do? Should I stand on my head? Here this girl is, being late with record and here someone else is, giving me a free introduction.' says Arora to Anurada, another professor of the same department while Sid simply stares at his desk.


"Let go Arora sir. They're kids.' says Anuradha paying not much attention to his words.


"I'll definitely not let it go. What these people think of themselves? That they can freak out the whole semester and get marks just by the matter of a wink? Not possible!' he declares.


"Sir. You said she's late. Did you ask her why she's late? Did you ask at least once?' asks Sid quickly turning dramatically sentimental amusing everyone. As for Roli, she's seriously confused. She doesn't even have a clue of why he's being an emotional soap hero all of a sudden. Same is the condition of Arora as well.


"You didn't ask. Why? Because you didn't want to know. Why would you even ask? Where do you people understand the value of life?' asks Sid being fully in action that even Roli feels curious.


"Can you tell me what's the matter?' ask Arora, being a little soft this time, trying to hide the curiosity in his voice.


"Thank god, you asked at least now. I will tell you. This morning, I and Roli started at 9:30 from our place so that she can submit her record on time. Did you hear, 9:30? We were driving in good speed...' says Sid acting as if he's riding a bike. Roli watches him like she has seen some ghost while Arora and other teachers in the staffroom give him full attention.



"Suddenly that sight caught our attention! what??? A little puppy was lying on the road with its leg hurt.' Sid pauses as he looks like he's gonna cry. Meanwhile Roli turns to Sid with a when did all these happen' look. As for Arora, he's all shocked.


"then?' he questions anxiously.


"Then what sir? I probably would have gone without noticing it as we were getting late. But see, Roli..' he pauses again as he grabs a confused Roli and makes her stand before Arora.



"She told me, no Siddhant, we shouldn't go like this. It's a poor animal. We should save it. I'm a biology student and so I understand how precious life is. Where I can deny when she say? So we took the puppy to the vet and got it admitted. And see, in all these she got late. Now you say sir, what's more important. Stupid materialistic marks or a life? Tell me sir! Tell me!' questions Sid acting fully emotional. Roli just watches him with eyes as large as guavas while Arora gets up and holds his hand.

"Definitely a life! Sorry, I never knew it. Roli, you did a great job. You're a true biology student. Keep it up. Here, give your record. I'm not even checking it. You're granted full marks. You know why, because you know the true spirit of biology. Very good. I'm glad that kind people still exist.' says Arora being fully emotional.



Ask of Roli's condition, she's all frozen. She never expected this to happen and takes a look of the Sid who has a naughty smile which probably only she could understand. She was kind of sure that he'd never let her land in trouble, but this idea of him made her speechless. For moment she even felt that he has gone out of his mind, but where did she know that he had other plans?


"Thank you sir, you're great!' says Sid shaking handing with Arora. Arora is in all smiles now, a smile which no one saw otherwise.


"You know what? Even I'm an animal lover. I work for the welfare of poor animals. So, I very well can appreciate Roli's great deed.' praises Arora giving a satisfactory smile to Roli. Roli smiles back and keeps the record on the desk, feeling relived.


"That's great. Even Roli is a great animal lover. She misses certain classes because of the participation in campaigns for animals, but you see in the process she loses her attendance.' says Sid with a sad face.




"
Oh no problem. Such social services are very much necessary. I will see through that she doesn't get any sort of problem due to scanty attendance.' assures Arora. Now, Roli is in the ninth cloud. Not only has saved her marks but she has also gained her attendance. Had not the teachers been present in the room, she would have given Sid such a bone crushing hug for this result. Sid just looks Roli with the corner of his eyes and smiles while she too smiles back at him.


"Well sir, can I take her now? We need to go back and see that puppy.' Sid questions innocently. Roli is even surprised now but keeps quiet.


"ya ya. Go. Don't worry about attendance. I'll manage.' says Arora.


"Thank you sir!' says Roli and Sid in unison, a beaming smile on their faces. Arora nods with a smile while they turns back to go. Just then they hear a 'listen' from Arora. Roli looks Sid in horror while he also gives her a weird look. The duo turns with a worried face while Arora's smile welcomes them.


"God bless you both!' he says while they silently sigh in relief, getting their smile back. They quickly nod, turn back and leave the room, not wanting any more questions or discussions to sprout.


Outside the staff room, Roli hugs Sid tightly by his neck while he too wraps his arms around her.


"you're amazing yaar. I love youuu!!!' says Roli as she pulls back with a big smile on her face. Sid chuckles watching his bestie in excitement and slightly punches on her nose.


"You should definitely understand this. Your best friend is a hero.' says him opening his arms in typical SRK style. Roli chuckles and hugging him again, leans on his chest.




"I know! And thank you so much!!' she says while Sid pulls back from her quickly. Roli looks at him being confused initially but soon, his looks tells her all.


"Acchaa baba. No thank you. Now tell me this, how did you get the idea to deal Arora this away. I never knew that he has such a weak side.' questions Roli bemused.



"Even I didn't know. It was when I saw that animal protection campaign brochures on his desk that I got a clue. Even then I wasn't sure. Yet, things were worst then, so I decided to take a chance and see it worked!' says Sid with a smile.


"you know what Sid? you will be great in film industry. What an observation, what an acting? For a moment I felt that you've gone mad!' says Roli with a smile.


"Of course you will feel that. Stupid bestie!!!' says Sid as he grabs Roli's ear and twists it.


"Ahhh leave Sid.' says Roli shoving his hands off her ear. "tell me this where are we going? You've given me a free holiday. so I think we need to celebrate.' says Roli with a wink.



"Of course we'll celebrate. Come on.' says Sid winking back at her while Roli chuckles, grabs his arm and starts walking downstairs.
