rishi kapoor is avg ..the only pot bellied unfit man who
had opportunities after opportunities to play the hero..

Rishi Kapoor:

Born in 1952

First film appearance: 1955's Shree 420 (directed by Raj Kapoor)

Second film appearance: 1970's Mera Naam Joker (directed by Raj Kapoor)

Third film appearance: 1973's Bobby (directed by Raj Kapoor)

- He won a NATIONAL AWARD for his appearance in Mera Naam Joker (Best Child Artist) aged 18.

- He won FILMFARE BEST ACTOR for his third film appearance (first lead role) however he admitted recently that he PAID FOR the award.

- He did NOT WIN any other filmfare award for the next 35 years: 1973-2007 despite over 115 film appearances in that time.

- In 2008 he won the "Lifetime Achievement" award, the same year his son won Best Debut.

This should tell you a little bit about his "stardom"

Even Dharmendra didn't win many awards. Would you argue he wasn't huge ? Just curious.. Not a huge fan of Rishi! I'm kind a indifferent to him..

agree with this.. if award means stardom then salman should have so many of them..

from mid 80s to late 80s.. Mithun gave so many hit movies.. watan ke rakhwali, waqt ke awaz, disco dancer.. and so on.. he should have been a star too if we go with the criteria.. Mithun da bigger star throughout the 80s than jetendra!!!

Amongst the kapoor clan, I rate him the highest.

Yes he was a romantic star but his was so effortless in his acting. When he sang songs, you can actually believe he sang it, he was that natural.

you cannot call someone a great actor purely based on how much they cry on screen, my criteria for acting is how natural and effortless they are on screen and based on that, Rishi Kapoor was amazing.

He was a superstar in his own right .

Rishi Kapoor was successful. He has many many hits from bobby - Dewana Bol Radha bol.

You can't be a lead actor for 30 years if you are a flop or average star.

- Dharmendra AND Rishi were both hugely successful. They were and still are big super stars/legends.

- My point was: as a "star kid" he had the privilege of being noticed by the National Award committee (in an awful performance) in his first film role. He had enough influence as a Kapoor boy to purchase a coveted Filmfare Award for his first lead role. The BACKBONE and ROOTS of his "stardom" is BASED entirely on NEPOTISM. After getting various roles in the 70s off the back of his name, he managed to woo audiences. He proudly recalls working with the most debuting heroines than anyone else: from 1957-born Dimple to 1974-born Divya Bharti (despite being 22 years her senior).

- In the 80s and 90s he usually played a "side-hero" in films that had strong females such as Sridevi, Meenakshi, Juhi etc. By doing this, he was just "hanging on". Much like Abhishek Bachchan today: Dhoom 3, Happy New Year, Housefull 3 etc are recent BLOCKBUSTERS that he has been lucky to have been part of.

- I was just trying to give some much needed text and context to the idea of "stardom" attained vs attributed.
