On a Bed of Nails, She makes Me 'walk'

While the "without part of "I can't live with or without you is quite some way off, I am most abhari (grateful) to the person who had a quiet word in the ears of the powers that be at Char Sher HQ. This is what we were all hoping to feast our eyes upon when this serial was announced.

The existential conundrum of, to watch or not to watch, was never an issue of course. Kyunki, Barun Sobti. Bas naam kaafi hai (his name is enough) to get me there. But, the serial watching junta at large needs a lot more. And, I, as a fan, want hordes of people to see and appreciate his talent.

Many can do a look, an expression, and stay with it. But, to be able to show the subtle shift of emotions in response to words and happenings, is what stands him apart. His amazing looks notwithstanding of course ;) That ability to emote effortlessly is not within the capability of many.

The gamut of expressions Barun displayed in this episode were simply superb. You felt what he was feeling. You hurt when he hurt. Be it literal or figurative.

That moment when he feels those nails pierce his feet, you saw the surprise on his face. And then the instant realisation of who was responsible and the hardening of his face before he delivers those contemptuous words, "Dard tumhara tohfa hai Chandni (Pain is your gift, Chandni). All in a matter of seconds. Koi uss se pyaar kaise na kare?! (How can one not love him)

Abhi mujh mein kahin

Baaki thodi si hai zindagi

And did we get a glimpse of it! The way he lay his head in his Nani's lap and wept was heart wrenching. "Chandni toh hamari apni thi (Chandni was ours), a betrayal by one's own hurts that much more because of the faraq that exists. Nani is right in her place, but isn't he also right? "Sach ke kayi pehlu hote hai (Truth has many shades to it) And that is what keeps us hooked. Exploring all the perspectives.

Ek aisi chubhan

Iss lamhe mein hai

That chubhan (prickle) was writ large all over his face at every word Chandni spoke about her parent's morality and righteousness. You gasped as you saw it reflected on his face. "Really? The sneering derision in that one word said it all. Perfect! The way in which he then spells out his own junoon contrasted perfectly with her bewilderment. The denouement, when it comes, will be painful for all concerned.

There is a sense of completeness about this episode. You're not left dizzy and blinded at the end. I liked how they showed both Advay and Chandni speak their heart with their confidantes. I even liked the Murli and Shilpa scene. Murli's haath peela and pair peela comment was amusing. It was sweet how he points out about Chandni putting the haldi on Bhaiya. Had the Inspectress Clouseau not interrupted at that point, he would got a tongue lashing from his Bhaiya though! The exposing of Mausaji and Riddle maasi's tawdry affair even left me feeling slightly sorry for Lipishtick wali maasi... she being a fellow pankhi and all... The revelation was the shocker of all shockers for the Vashisht clan wasn't it?! The What_the looks on their faces was fabulously satisfying!

Today makes the starved Oliver in me Twist and utter greedily, albeit nervously,

Sobti is back... with a BANG!

What a powerhouse of a performance. My pankey heart forgave all costume malfunctions with this one episode. This is the treasure we have, and the makers had to wait for a month to bring him out. Give the man an inch, and he will show a mile of stellar performance!

I was very critical all these past days and so let me give the credit where credit is due. Thank you for listening to us, all those powers-that-be. Here is a classy actor who we adore and we waited for all these years and years to see him on screen. You brought him back. From that first moment of nail pricking his precious feet to him breaking down at his beloved Naani's lap. Thank you.

Thank you Sobti for reminding us why we are crazy about you. It is not only your look (though there is nothing to complain about it and you are one hot hot hot dude) it is primarily your performance that brought millions of us so close together and now has gone beyond mere fan girls to friends. You showed us this back on episode 30. Your voice breaking when you said, "Chandni toh hamari apni thi" broke all of our hearts along with yours. How can we not grieve along with and for Advay?

The supporting cast of Murali and Shilpa and Nani and Chandini, thank you. You made this episode even more likable/memorable.

Please PTB, don't forget this is the type of cast you have, and there is a global audience out there who are drawn by Sobti and what you can do with an actor like him, with some powerful performance by equally good supporting case. Let the bygones be bygones and let us get back to why we are all drawn to this 3rd installment in the first place. Use OUR Sobti wisely.

There was something about the whole episode that left me breathless. And it isnt that fawning and blushing waala breathless, no. This was on a whole new level. A deeper, intense level.

It was like.. he was hurt, and I could feel it. Like..literally.

The pain, the anguish...the cold stoned stubborn power and determination..you could seriously feel everything he was emoting.

There are times when you get lost into Barun's charming and handsome face and expressions and would go watch a repeat coz all the dialogues would fly right above your head.

But there are times when he touches you. And it feels so real and honest that..you are moved. Disturbed and effected. And it gets really heavy and emotional and...you are robbed off your breath.

This episode belongs to the latter.

Every single frame that Barun was in, it was out and out Advay. Every word he uttered, every muscle he moved, every flicker that crossed his face..It just stays with you.

His eyes, his facial muscles and him as a whole spoke as loud and clear as his voice did.

And I dont think I have come across many actors who can not only emote but also drag me into the roller coaster of an emotions that they are portraying, the way Barun does.

This man needs to be applauded, appreciated and recognized.
He simply is an actor par excellence.

All the scenes in the episode were impactful
Advay realized just in a few steps that there were nails
Chandni gave her a gloating smile and smirked at him
He accepted her challenge and completed the task
He showed that nothing can stop him from his goal
Later Chandni told him his feet were bleeding
But he said that is normal when he comes near her
The Advay Naani scene was very emotional
He poured out his heart to her and cried in her lap
Naani was like a balm to his wounds
She understands him so well and is a positive force for him
Chandni remembering Dev was so beautiful
We knew more about her feelings for Dev
Mama supported her in his own way
The diya scene before the Ganesh idol was so symbolic
Both of them will work for the relation but for different reasons
the song was perfect for the situation too
Murli was quick to point out that Chandni gave Advay the lep

You said it all.
For me one & only Barun was the hero of the episode.
I could feel Advay's pain, anguish, hurt & betrayal in every sense.
He was breathing Advay and Dev in every single frame.
And absolutely the ensemble cast was awesome too.
But my eyes were only on Barun & Barun.
From start to end he owned every single frame of the episode for me.
Hope now the cvs will continue with this brilliance.
Thanks for this amazing post.

I may not be watching the show Ruchi, but can't stop reading your wonderful posts...

How beautifully you have penned down Advay's predicament...
Just by reading your description, I can imagine how Barun would have executed it.
Barun is a powerhouse of talent. Give him right script and a right director, and then see the magic...

And then see Ruchi's magic flowing down from her pen...
Great job Ruchi!

Keep on writing...

ReRe, you are absolutely right in your assessment. We adore Barun as much for his talent as for his looks. He has always had the ability to elevate any scene he's in, regardless of whether he says anything.

In the last revelation scene, the way he was standing and the look on his face... superb! <3 "Special love you said... Take that"!

And, as you said, the supporting cast is as important in allowing him to showcase his talent. And in this episode, they were all very, very good.

Our Barun is truly special, isn't he!

Candy, thank you! 🤗

It is his ability to emote that gives depth and substance to the chocolatey munda good looks we so adore. And what leaves a lasting and deep impression in our hearts.
