Part One
" Mr. Oberoi, your wife has a subdumal hematoma. We have seen some improvement since the surgery, but we do not know if there will be any residual affects. As you know this is not her first head injury, the doctor explained.
Shivaay looked at him stunned. As far as he could recall she did not have any major trauma to her head before this accident. Yes for the fake memory loss, she had fallen but Rudra had placed a cushion there.
"Doctor you mean there was some previous injuries. I mean as along as I have known her, this was the only major issue. She was shot in her shoulder area, but luckily that time the bullet had mostly grazed her, he stated.
" It may have been an older injury, perhaps from her childhood. Does she recall much from her childhood? Perhaps one of her relatives or her parents may know, he suggested.
Shivaay's face fell.
She had no family besides Sahil. She had mentioned some things about her childhood but many were vague. She could not recall her parents or their names.
But there was one person who could help him.
Chanda.
Shivaay called Chanda and told her about the accident and the doctor's words about past physical trauma.
Chanda wanted to be cold towards the man, her friend had dedicated her life to. However she saw his earnest expression and behavior. It became hard for her to remain too cold towards him. Today for the first time since she met him, she had seen his vulnerable side.
" Ek vaada karoge Shivaay?, she asked.
" Haan bolo Chanda, he replied.
"Iss baar usse kuch hone mat dena, Chanda stated.
There was no way of knowing if she would wake up from this. As Chanda talked about what she knew, the abuse in the orphanage and Sahil's Bua, Shivaay's blood boiled.
How could someone be so cruel to her! Then again he had hurt her so much as well.
Annika ka bina zindagi kali hogi thi.
His brothers and their wives took turns visiting and consoling him.
His father, Tej and Jahnvi along with Dadi came. Priyanka would tag along with Gauri. She wouldn't dare come alone. She thought Shivaay hated her now, and she feared Annika's reaction if she woke up and found her there.
Annika suddenly began to show improvement on the fifth day. She moved her fingers. The doctors began disconnecting tubes and monitors. Now only a nasal cannula and heart monitor remained.
Shivaay felt her fingers enclose his, and he looked up to see her eyes flicker open.
He quickly dried his tears.
" Annika ab kaise feel hora hai?, he asked.
She blankly gazed at him and pulled back her fingers.
" Aap yahaan kyun hain? Aap toh ne mujhe chor diya tha, she stated.
"Annika relax, I didn't file for divorce, he stated.
"How long did I sleep, you married someone else and now you are here with me? Please go with your wife, she cried.
" Tum ho meri patni!, he exclaimed.
She slowly turned back to him.
"Kya?
"Haan Annika. I know you are upset with me. That is why you are pretending right? Suno, job hi tum chahti ho, woh main karguna. Mujhe maaf kardo Annika, he stammered.
" Mujhe saach mein yaad nahin hai, ki humari shaadi kab huyi, she admitted.
She tried hard to think and started to get up, pulling off her oxygen and heart monitor in the process. Her head pained her and was about to stumble forwards when he caught her in his arms. He caressed her hair and tried to sooth her.
He made her settle down in bed as the nurses arrived to see what the commotion was. They checked her iv site which was somehow still intact. They reapplied her heart monitor and checked her oxygen level.
He stood back a bit allowing some space, but he just wanted them to hurry up so he could finally talk to his wife. Shivaay just wanted everything to get fixed. But he realized it would be quite some journey. He would have to start anew with Annika.
