Charade - a memory stirred

While watching last few episodes (especially leading to and after Aru's love confession), I remembered reading something (a trivia) about one of my old favourite film called "Charade".

It is an anecdote and not sure how much of it is true.

Charade is an old film in which Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn acted. At the time of filming Cary was 25 years older than Audrey and this age difference bothered him (the brazen disregard of a male lead's age compared to FL's, came much later in films)

So elevate his concerns (and old man pursuing a younger woman somehow makes him a creep in most viewers eyes), it was Audrey's character which pursues him in the film.

It is her who not just falls for him but is rather persistent in her affections and it's declarations. I noticed a similar pattern in last few episodes of YMMKD.

It is Aru who did a lot of wooing and convincing and so on. It can be due to the concern that people might feel it weird if Mukhi does it.

We do tend to feel weird if a much older man is behaving like a young fool (I guess a lot of us (including me) were cringing at the Mukhi dancing with dupatta scene) in love. If do not however mind it much if it comes from the younger of the two.

I believe it was same case (younger guy falling and following the older woman) for one earlier serial on Sony where the guy was younger to the girl (I forgot the name of the serial), even in case of Gulaal (there were a few more additional complexities there), in the track where Kesar grows up and comes back.

Just a casual observation.

I think character wise,it made sense. Aru is a go-getter, willing to fight for something she wanted. mukhi was someone aru wanted, so she went after him full force. I never saw a girl pursue the boy in serials, so it was a nice change.
Mukhi on the other hand, is more reserved and conscious. he would never openly pursue aru because he would consider it as irresponsible.

Otherwise, I would have loved to see the same plot before marriage. I wish this show did not take the typical bride-swap route. I wanted aru to fall for mukhi before marriage, then she would pursue him. oh well, it is still a good story.

ArMu in front of others should be in there characters but when comes to private they can do whatever they want...mukhi ji in private also still playing mukhi giri ..he should be free bird little..i am not saying he should do OTT drama but he should show some his own magic.

Hey, Audrey hepburn is my favourite and I love black and white movies. Thanks for the recommendation. I will watch Charade now.
And I completely agree with you. Seriously, if Mukhi pursued her...that would be a bit creepy...43 year old acting like a lovesick puppy...can't digest. On the other hand,I loved Aru's deewanapan for her handsome husband. And I always liked a younger girl-older man love story.

For example I can marry salman Khan anytime. So what he is like 22-23 years older than me. He kept himself fit and he is smart and he is yummy. So bring on older guys. They pamper their women most and treat them like princesses,

Cary Grant... Audrey Hepburn.. my favourites too. . Similarity difinitely there! Great observation... and superb memory Cora 👏
And remember Audrey with Gregory Peck... "Roman Holiday'..

Anyways, I too saw 'Lamhe' playing on TV yesterday. I noticed one thing. Anil Kapoor who is also 20 odd years older to Sridevi in the film... was watching exactly the same 'Shri 420 ' scene just like our Mukhiji's dream.

Any connection there? Possible no? Since anyway they were adapting from many films, albeit in a wonderful way!
