You are right, the unnecessary distortion of the story is unwarranted for.
If one has to draw a parallel with history during the timeline featured in the track (1719-1720) Mastani was a mere 5-6 year old girl. It makes no sense for them to show Bajirao fantasising about her and future events related to her.

Balaji Vishwanath died on 2nd April 1720 and on 17th April Bajirao was declared the Peshwa.

Bajirao's first son Balaji aka Nana was born in December 1721. He was followed by another son called Ramchandra in 1723. A third male child was born before the Bundelkhand campaign but died soon after birth. Even after the arrival of Mastani Kashi had another three male children between 1733 to 1735. Thus it is clear that Bajirao-Kashi equation was just like that of a normal couple.

The PB creatives are just trying to deceive viewers.

Yes I completely agree with you if the show is about
Peshwa Bajirao. We expect his journey by becoming a
Peshwa and his historical achievement of 41 victories
With out any loss and his political life. Not some distorted
Love story...

When Mastani came into the Peshwa's life (in 1729) she was around 15-16 years old. She was very pretty and talented and he fell for her completely.
But his distancing from Kashi only began after mid 1737. It is on record that he maintained relations with both women until that year. After that his drinking and meat eating which became frequent on the Delhi campaign when Mastani accompanied him alienated him from his orthodox family.

In the movie Bajirao Mastani when Bajirao gives Mastani his dagger she accepts it as a sign of marriage. That was another distortion of a historical fact.

There is no consensus about the manner in which Bajirao married Mastani or whether or not there was a marriage at all.

There was a custom called Khanda or dagger marriage in which a ceremony was performed between the bride and the groom's weapon representing him on the altar. This was done when the bride and the groom belonged to different castes or communities. Any children born of such a union were considered illegitimate by Hindus.
