Sri Bilva Mangalacharya ( Lila Suka)

A great Krishna devotee Lila Suka in this Stotra described how effective and captivating the three words Govinda,Damodara and Madhava are. In his poems he illustrated different situations where Krishna's ardent devotees called him with those names.

Agre Kurunam Atha Pandavanam Dussasanenahata vastra Kesa

Krishnaa tadakrosat Ananya Natha .Govinda Damodara Madhaveti.

Before the assembled Kurus and Pandavas ,when her hair and garments are siezed by Dussasana Krishnaa,Draupadi devoid of any Lord ,called thus" Govinda, Damodara ,Madhava...

Draupadi was staked like an object in the dice game by Yudhishtir.Pandavas lost themselves, their kingdom and Draupadi.

When Dussasan dragged her to the Kuru assembly where Pandavas stood helpless and motionless,Draupadi became lordless despite having her lords.

Krishnaa folded her hands helplessly and wailed ." He Govind Damodar Madhav...save my dignity.

( To be continued). Lakshmi

vikretu kama kila gopa-kanya Murari padarpita chitta vrittih
dadhydikam mohavasad avochat govinda damodara madhaveti

Though desiring to sell milk, curd butter, etc., the mind of a young gopi was so absorbed in the lotus feet of Kanha that instead of calling out "Milk for sale," she bewilderedly said, "Govinda!", Dmodara!", and "Madhava

The young gopi has to sell curd milk etc . She is immersed in Krishna's thoughts. The bluish complexion, the peacock feather ,the yellow garment, the mischevous eyes...the girl could feel only the beautiful Nanda Gopal before her. She is in bewilderment and called out without inhibition." Govinda Damodara Madhava ...

Govinda Damodara madhaveti

A lotus-eyed girl instructed the red-beaked pet parrot that was seated in the cup of her lotus hand; she said, "Govinda, Dmodara, Mdhava . . ."

The lotus eyed girl is besotted with the moon of Brindavan,Nanda's pampered son. She held her pet parrot in the cup of her lotus like hand and started instructing the much loved words that belong to the lotus eyed Kanha. And the words are once again Govinda,Damodara Madhava...

Ramanujam vikshana Keli lolam
Gopi Grihitva navanita golam
Abalakam balakamajuhava
Govinda Damodara madhaveti

On seeing the child who is not a child, dodging her and playing mischevously with his eyes the Gopi took the round ball of butter to lure him and invited him by calling Govinda Damodara Madhava.

Krishna's mischevousness and playful attitude is making her impatient. She took the ball of butter to lure him as he can not avoid the temptation of butter. She called him earnestly Govinda Damodara Madhava

Kanha was absorbed in playing as soon as he got up.Overwhelmed with affection, mother Yashoda who thought only of her son's welfare, called out, "Govinda, Dmodara, Mdhava! for the sake of taking bath and eating food.

As soon as he got up Bala Krishna started playing with his friends. Yashoda, his mother who thought of his well being called him" Govinda Damodara Madhava come take bath and eat something.

Yashoda is the luckiest mother who could enjoy little Krishna's childhood. Bilvamangalacharya is feeling the good fortune of Yashoda and Gopis. Hence he could churn out such beautiful verses.

Vrindavane gopa ganascha gopyo
Vilokya Govinda viyoga khinnam
Radham Jaguh Sasru vilochanabhyam
Govinda Damodara madhaveti

In Vrindavan seeing Radha overwhelmed with separation from Govinda, groups of gopas and gops sang, with tears in their eyes, "Govinda! Dmodara! O Mdhava!"

Krishna left Vrindavan and went to Madhura. Radha was shattered and roamed around feeling the separation from her Nanda Gopal. On seeing her pathetic state Gopas and Gopis sang with tears in their eyes..Govinda Damodara Madhava
