IPKKND3~ep 9~13.7.17 My Impressions.. Signals of the sky candle
Sky lantern..or sky candles, were traditionally used as part of war time stratagem. Sending off lit up floating messages across the night sky, as SOS ,when surrounded by enemy troops. Nowadays sky candles are released into the night sky with peoples wishes written on the outside of the paper lanterns. Study shows , the tradition originates from far eastern Asian cultures, and integrates itself into many festivals. Within the subcontinent itself, sky lanterns are lit across the night skies when celebrating Diwali the festival of light. Sky lanterns during festival times is a popular and much loved feature for children. If sky candles is about sending and picking up signals ,then I would think, today's episode, features a few today.
At the terrace, the milky orb across the dark firmament once again becomes a point of contact between Chandni and her childhood friend Dev. After so many years he continues to be a tower of strength for her in troubled times. The glow of the two divas on either side of Chandni symbolizes the bond of friendship that once was, and still is from her side for Dev. As he lit up her, years ago by releasing a sky candle with a promise ,far or near, they would forever offer sky candles to deities in the skies. Today after many moons, she feels the need to repeat their childhood ritual, in the hope that on seeing her floating candle in the sky.. his response will float by, as an acceptance signal of his sky candle of love for her too. A signal that he too misses her like she does. Floating upon the promises of childhood love, and hopes of signals of love being picked up, the night candle does float by the right window.
Cynical rejection of what once was but not now. Advay too stands and stares at the moon, her namesake! He spots the night lantern, he may be in denial, but his heart knows it's her signalling him. Silently he watches the sky lantern, it's very sight infuriates him, he warns himself Chandni is nothing but a mirage! Never the twain shall meet. Yes he returns, not to support her, but to punish her! Let the past remain in the past.. while he deals with the atrocities of the past ,at the present moment! He will not allow himself to be duped! In rage the small metal stave that he hurls across the space between his window and the floating night candle.. is symbolic of the sharp tooth of his revenge waged against her and vashist family. Chandni tearful eyes.. watches the pierced set on fire sky candle plummeting to the ground in burnt ashen tatters. For unaware she is her Dev is the devil himself now! Yet her two divas beside her on the terrace , make it hard for her to accept ,that Dev has abandoned her forever.. it feels not like the end!of Dev and his Chandni, for the two lamps are still aglow...
When the flame of the night candle continues to burn as a fire of revenge. Every action that Advay takes is charged by his hard line policy, of getting back at the vashists and that fair traitor Chandni .Thanks to Shilpa he finds out yet another act of being do gooder's is being enacted by the vashists to promote their sanctimonious image. The widows will be served a big meal today. Thus whenever the vashists set out to maintain their image in the community Advay aided by his housekeeper and girls obsessed side kick Murli are all geared up to throw the spanner in the works in the very den of iniquities ,the vashist house! One cannot say that Advay sits around idle. His revenge keeps him well occupied , plotting, executing and evaluating his moves against his earmarked targets is what Advay is all about.. he has not the time ,nor the heart , to be releasing night lanterns into the night sky..but for some reason he still stares at the moon, searchingly ,longingly? Rabba ve!
When sincere love and respect goes into the food being prepared by the three sisters in the kitchen. Chandni reminds her sisters of the dehumanized , vulnerable status of widows in present day culture and tradition. The three sisters are the symbol of goodness and virtue in this otherwise corrupt household, and hold the balance between virtue and vice living alongside.. as symbolized by Lord Shiva's trident.
Where goodness floats carefree in the air. The evil three sisters, Indrani, shakun,and kajal are bogged down by the approach of the black mailer, expected to come today. Question is with the banquet for widows, how would they recognise the shady one? Indrani as per the decision maker amongst the three reckons, he'll come as he needs the money.. they seem prepared.
Advay is meticulous in his planning. He cannot be seen to impose this function, has to be seen prepared in every way..plus show his financial might as well. Apart from other precious gifts he comes bearing, he also wants to mark his present visitation into the vashist household with sweets. As the gods have it.. Advay has to get the ladoos from the sweet shop, he connects with Veer, who immediately connects, strange signals, and recognises the man he helped move Lord Shiva's idol. Veer jests as his nature, and Advay maintains his distance. But the truth of the matter is that unknowingly Advay creates the situation whereby Veer too enters this household. Later on Veer comes across Shika and who knows they just might a romantic leaning towards each other, which in a broader sense will have two brothers, tribky together to smite a common foe! In my opinion Veer and Shika seem two of a kind, in terms of compatibility. Again both brothers in the episode come to make deliveries and to receive something in return . Where as Veer both gives and takes in a stride. Advay only dishes out, quite closed to receiving anything in return, advice..or love? Interest?
When the devil too tries to atone for his sins.. Gangaram the families goldsmith comes in the main to offer donation for widows. But really he comes to settle old an old account. Guilty ones squirm!i Indrani gets alert signals! He is the black mailer .. but the sinners atonement does not come that easy.. for they have to suffer more for the heinous crimes they committed. Hence Indrani and her gang continue to suffer.. as Gangaram is not the blackmailer..the old account is to do with jewellery debts.. not the murders of the old Mahant and his wife. So Indrani's search for the black mailer continues.. this is Lord Shiva's justice,the wicked stay alive and burn in their guilt, day in and day out...
The entry of one who takes away Chandni's breath.. the recent dread of her life. The man who says things and keeps his word. He said he'd be back ,and he's back again to bully her down! Advay comes bearing gifts. He smells of wealth. The three wicked sisters watch his arrival ,their mouths water at the scale of his donations for the widows. Chandni gathers her courage.. recalls how she stood up to his brashness last time and confronts him. Advay looks down into her eyes.. he is almost beginning to like this girls spirit now. yes he will enjoy breaking her .. Chandni is sharp , what does he want? He replies calmly , this time he comes to give.. a donation , he says she should make a donation too, it's a means to having one's sins washed off. He instructs Murli to show the gifts he bears for the widows and tells him to start giving the alms. Chandni is not impressed by his show of wealth and takes it upon herself to remind him of the ethics and code of giving ,when the receivers are present. She gently reminds him he should be giving the donation directly to each widow, so each widow can feel the humility and respect with which charity is given as a gift and not something they beg for. Advay outrightly rejects her tips on morality and retorts, what would she know about good and bad! right from wrong!Chandni admits she doesn't ,for only Mahadev can differentiate. Advay makes her hold the coin platter.. and looks down into her eyes.. for guidance .. what should he do then? She gently replies give the coin by his own hand.. he picks a coin, goes to a widow and hesitates to bend, while giving. He looks back at her and she instructs, bend and offer the coin. He does so.. and she feels pleased not for, wounding his pride.. but for the fact ,that he perhaps recognizes the emotional vulnerability of widows in society in general. Advay returns to her ,stands before her imposingly. The coin platter held by her separates them. His palm brushes her hand, and his fingers spontaneously cup her hand that grips the platter.. he looks intently into her eyes rabba ve, she mumbles nervously, what is he doing? She pulls her hand away and advises him further, when giving the donation, make eye contact with the receiver.. since she grips his eyes in a stare, he jests, for once with her, how can he give the receiver eye contact when her stare refuses to release his eyes! Chandni nerves get the better of her .. till Meghna turns up and saves the day.. Chandni runs from him and he robustly pulls her back so hard that she slams against his chest! He folds his arm around her back.. but she forces herself off him.. and goes to his sister. Dryly he protests, he wasn't aware that it's a big deal to save a girl in this house! Chandni sees the pieces of smashed glass on the floor. She had read false meaning into his intentions... who can blame her.. of all the harm he's giving her in a veiled way. Still she mutters a sorry. Advay glares at her and moans in an angry gruff voice.. he was only trying to save her.. but it's obvious she's not worth saving! And he stomps off in fury.. Chandni watches him go off in a hissy fit! Her heart squeezes.. he never turned to look at her, over his shoulder.. rabba ve.. smoke signals! rabba ve..
Some warm scenes between Chandni and Advay today..she still fears his intentions a bit ,but over all she was on high moral ground when she shows him the differentiation between donating and asking for.. as in begging.. tomorrow Advay will come across Chandni again.. he will ensure her family does not gain access to the temple treasures.. Chandni for the sake of her family has to see to it that the temple doors do open. In this battle it appears Lord Shiva will decide what the outcome will be.. hamlet53 14.7.17
