Veteran actor Prem Chopra has returned home after spending a week at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. The 92 year old was admitted following a viral infection along with complications linked to age. His family confirmed on Saturday that he has been discharged and is now resting at home.
According to updates shared with news agency ANI, Chopra had been under the care of cardiologist Dr Nitin Gokhale. The hospital kept him under observation due to concerns related to his heart and lungs. Doctors said he responded to treatment and remained stable throughout his stay.
Dr Jalil Parkar, who has been monitoring his condition, explained the situation with clarity. “He is a known case of cardiac ailment and he also had a viral infection, and that’s why I’m treating him for the lungs. He is not in the ICU; he is in the ward,” he said in his statement.
Parkar also noted that age naturally slows down recovery for patients in this stage of life. “He is 92 years old and he has age related issues because of which his recovery takes a little time. He should be fine in another three four days and go home,” he said. The actor was eventually discharged within that timeframe, and his family ensured his transition back home was smooth.
Chopra’s health update drew attention across the industry, with many recalling his long presence in Hindi cinema. Over six decades, he has built a career that few actors of his generation can match. His roles as antagonists in the 60s and 70s shaped the way Hindi films portrayed villains on screen.
He has acted in close to 380 films, a number that reflects both his consistency and acceptance across filmmakers. His work in Woh Kaun Thi in 1964, Upkaar in 1967, Do Raaste in 1969 and Kati Patang in 1970 is still remembered for the way he carried negative roles with ease. Later films like Bobby, Do Anjaane, Trishul, Dostana and Kranti added further weight to his filmography.
For now, Chopra is expected to continue resting at home, while doctors keep track of his recovery. His family has asked for privacy as he regains strength at his own pace.
