Alrighty now that I'm off work and have some time, I wanted to share my thoughts. (This will be a long post, so no one is compelled to read through this if they chose not to). :)
First off, thanks to all those that voted and replied to this thread. I like when we all can express our views in a civil manner. :) I respect each and every opinion.
So all the above movies obviously didn't fair well...that's quite unfortunate because #SalRani (yes, that's my new # for them) are an adorable pair and I've loved both of them in each of those movies respectively. :) They are such a cute couple (onscreen of course) and they compliment each other so well. Also, to their advantage, all these movies have some of the most melodious songs! Yes, even Hello Brother. Teri Chunariya? I love that song!
Coming to the scrips I loved them all. They weren't perfect, some were cheesy, but I would pick any of these movies compared to the types of movies that come out today (there will obviously be exceptions). But like some people, I do have a favorite. Unlike most people who posted their views, I'm in the minority. But it's ok...
So my pick would be Baabul. This was such a beautiful film and I'm so sad it didn't fair well. I'm a daughter too and I could relate so much with Rani in that film. It had a beautiful message. Now the movie was far from perfect and it was very predictable. But it had this simplicity to it as well which I loved. It showcased a journey of a daughter, bride/wife, and mother. Her happiness, her pain, her grief, sorrow etc etc. The film could have been made differently...better. But I loved it. The music was lovely to listen to. The costumes were beautiful.. loved Rani and Hema Malini's outfits - especially in the Ga Re Maan Piya. Loved each and every character of the film - yes even John whom I'm not a big fan of. No bride would want to go through the struggles Mili had to go through. This movie depicted such a beautiful journey...and the most touching part was the fact that after Avi's (was that his name)? she did not go back to her maternal home. She remained with her in laws which I really admired. That really touched my heart. It is really tough when you're at that stage. It was an admirable thing to do. So anyways this movie wins it for me for the reasons I mentioned in this post. Don't think many agree with me on this, but it's always good to have differing opinions! :)
