Toilet Ek Prem Katha likely to be tax free in BJP ruled states
In what could prove to be a massive boost to Akshay Kumar's upcoming Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', there are reports that the film could be declared tax free in BJP ruled states.
A source was quoted by a leading daily as saying "The Government has decided to implement an entertainment tax exemption in all BJP-run states. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is not merely a film, but also a tool for social reform. And, this film deserves to be seen by all. Therefore, it deserves to be made tax free
Since most major states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat are all under the BJP leadership, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' could get tax exemption in more than half of the country.
The film is said to be based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
To effectively promote the film and get government support which would ensure that the film reaches out to a vast section of the audience Akshay has already dedicated much more time than he usually does for a film.
Toilet Ek Prem Katha' releases in theatres on August 11 and the makers hope to take advantage of the Independence Day weekend. The box office prospects of the film got a further boost when Shah Rukh Khan decided to release his film, Jab Harry Met Sejal', a week before on August 4.
Note: Neither the central nor the state government have released any official statement or sent out a declaration. So until there's anything official, this news article should only be considered to be a rumour.
