Evil has always been present since the beginning that is present in all of us. An evil man should shock us as much as an evil woman and when that woman is a mother, it is even more shocking and unpalatable. Does the role of a nurturer blunt the wickedness of the deed committed by Pinky Singh Oberoi? Not by one whit. Today she let it all out, that was bottled up inside of her. She had enough of the pretense, of accepting Anika as her bahu. She was so consumed by her own insecurities where Shivaay was concerned that she could not bear the disappointment of choosing her son's bride. It was more about her dreams that lay shattered at her feet than calling Anika a mere plain glass, instead of choosing a diamond of the first water. Pinky in her blind hatred, forgot that the diamond shines brilliantly, has many facets, cuts the glass but the glass lets light through, is transparent and plain. The diamond has a history of its cut and color but the glass has no such thing. Anika is a rarity in that she speaks her mind, does not lie, transparent as a glass, does not have the pedigree or cut/clarity of a diamond. A diamond has flaws too only they are not visible to the naked eye whereas the glass is flawless, clean and pure. A diamond is very hard and has a blue glow unlike glass that is plain or transparent. Anika is soft hearted, has a big heart, self made entirely like glass that is man made. She has defined her worth, her morals despite her lack of guidance from her parents. She maybe just glass but worth more than a diamond any day.
Pinky though from a village must come from money for her to speak with so much pride. That and the Oberoi surname has gone to her head. As Tej pointed out her whole life revolved around her son, making him the perfect show piece and built her dreams around him. When Shivaay proudly acknowledged that Anika was his strength and inspiration, Pinky's hatred and fear of rejection grew manifold. The thought of losing her son to this Woman' with no NKK is hard to digest who easily overlooked the fact that Tia was pregnant before the wedding. She was willing to forgive and forget all that Tia said and wanted a beautiful doll to proudly display and pat on the head.
The story of Putana who came to breast feed baby Krishna with her breasts smeared with poison is too horrendous to imagine. Who would want to murder an innocent baby this way? The very precious bond that is nurtured during the breast feeding of the baby is tarnished by Putana forever. Yet this deceptively simple story defines the role of evil innate in our minds and heart, magnified by society. That with good exists evil, that to achieve good, evil has a role to play.
For Shivika to work over the huge obstacle called NKK, evil Pinky has to play her role, for Shivaay to win over his NKK and to become a better person. This is a singular argument running in the battle between evil and good: that for good to win, evil has to lose but not without accepting the presence of evil in us and the world we live in. Shivaay has to accept the fact that his mother is evil and overcome his NKK that has been drilled into him since his birth by the woman who gave birth to him, nurtured him.
Pinky as a mother and villain and a woman is a fascinating juxtaposition. for children especially, the most influential person is the mother. When this mother figure is split into the evil (like Kaikeyi) and the good (Kaushalya), the benevolent always win. Pinky was alternately expressing her disgust of Anika to pleading with her, accusing her of trying to separate her from her son. Nitika Anand was too good here, she shone in her scenes difficult though it was to watch her degrade and blame her bahu. Calling her cheap and worthless.
Anika has been made to feel like a worm by both mother and son. Shivaay said the same to her not too long ago and now his mother is repeating his words and more. Shivaay has grown as a responsible caring husband while his mother is yet to grow as a loving mother in law. She conveniently forgot the times that Anika saved Shivaay, especially during the fake Shivaay period. A woman who is desperate to have the son attached to her pallu, has her shades of emotions and grey as well as giving rise to some fascinating narratives. I am All for it as Shivika move forward in their marriage. The vile women from our mythologies like Surpanakha, Kaikeyi, Putana etc are tarnished in irredeemable black though the ages and serve as harsh reminders of our follies and fallacies as humans.
Pinky has crossed all limits today or is there more to come? Only the coming days will tell and then begins her tale of accepting Shivika and how wrong she was.
