Slower storytelling and depth

A few episodes in, when Kabir disappeared for a couple of episodes, and the focus was on Myra's family, I was conscious of a feeling of impatience. When would they meet again? When would their story go forward? And then they had Rhea sing a song, and covered the entire song.

And that is when I realised: I haven't watched such a slow unfolding in a long time. I don't follow a lot of Hindi shows, and most of the English stuff I watch is quite fast-paced. And I had to teach myself to unwind, to not rush and insist on only a focus on the 'main story', as it were.

And as I kept on watching, I started enjoying the slower pace. It was not only relaxing but charming. There was a depth and a theraav to it. I've come to really value the unfolding of the narrative. It is slow, but not repetitive. Not the way other Hindi shows are slow. It is slow the way life is slow, the way life is about more than just two people meeting and falling in love.

And by the third song there was no way that I was going to imagine this show without Rhea's songs 😊

You are right. The beauty of Bin Kuch Kahe lies in the way they present mundane life in a comical yet relatable way. It takes some time to get into it but once you are in, there is no turning back.

As you watch on, you'll see even more how this stands out. The couples interact not through eyelock & catch/fall but rather through conversation. And neither of them are perfect or holier than thou. They come with their flaws and imperfections. And they grow.

I feel sad that there's little audience for this amazing gem.

Thanks for replying.

And yes the eye lock and catch fall is not only unrealistic but done to death. I'm glad they are not going that way.

As for the audience, the thing is that most people don't like to give things a chance that are not already what they are accustomed to. If they can't get into it quickly, then most of them would drop out and not try and get into it at all.

Sometimes I think that content wise this show could have been a web-series. They would have found more appreciation because the audience online brings very different expectations to what they watch. But perhaps 157 episodes was too much for online content providers? Or wish they had sold it to Netflix. That would have given them great international exposure. There are so many small Indian films and documentaries that I have got to see courtesy Netflix that I wouldn't have had otherwise.

In my opinion. this serial is light hearted but has a very progressive storyline. A story of a single mother of three daughters: life of this single mother is not terrible like they always showcase in the other serials. This single mother is powerful because she has empowered daughters.

Another single mother with a son, who is awaiting to divorce her husband. Unlike the ones portrayed in some serials (who want to get back to abusive husbands), this mother wants to end everything with her husband; at the same time, she wants someone to take up the father role for her son, while longing to have a partner for herself.

All the male characters (including Akshay to some extent) are unconventional and progressive. Not the typical and arrogant ones we always see on TV.

I am surprised that such a nice serial has very few spectators. Perhaps the TV audience are more accustomed to their cultural beliefs and therefore do not opt to watch this?

The writer Rajshree Ojha wanted ITV to be respected thus she opted for this to be aired on one of the channels. She wan't looking for ratings per se but more for a loyal audience who will appreciate something like this. They spent a year writing this. And then a good 8 months shooting this with the entire cast in Jaipur.

I think the reason for few viewers is because of the initial pace. It was a little slow in the beginning. Most people are accustomed to drama and fast pace on ITV. Another thing which bothers most of us here is ZEE not promoting it. A lot of people have no idea this show even exists. Many of the people on the forum started watching due to word of mouth by samridhi. (one of our very active members whose crazy about BKK) including me.

Glad to see more people coming in and appreciating this. When I entered, there was only samridhi and 2 more members posting.😆

Lovely post. Agree with all of you. I also found out about BKK thank to samridhi.😆
I know some people who dropped it after a while because they could not stand Myra being rude to Kabir all the time. Also Rhea's character was a turn off for them. I guess people can't take flawed or rude female characters though chauvinist male leads are fine.
Another is BKK requires some patience because it is not dramatic or fast paced where it moves from one track to another. There is no one track. All the characters have different issues all going on at one time. This is probably something people are not used to.

That is the charm of the show. All characters are layered, and the show takes it time to develop each character. Most shows have one-dimensional supporting cast. Here each one is layered and has a story. We had been waiting for Abha's story as well right from the start, and the writers do not seem to have disappointed.

As for the audience... oh well. It lacks drama. The male lead is a truly progressive guy. The girl is opinionated but has a major reason to be so. It talks about the hot topics such as bullying and depression in a very undramatic way. Deals with topics like single parenthood without judging. No audience for that.

That said, I am sure there would be a lot many on IF who would be interested. But very few know the show even exists.

Myrah was rude with Kabeer perhaps she wants to hide her feelings towards him, which is normally shown the other way in other serials.
Kabeer is a progressive guy, so is Sandeepan Iyer. I like this Iyer guy. He is so funny, interesting and romantic too. He is portrayed as a moderate, unorthodox guy, though he comes from a conventional Brahmin Iyer family.

This serial would defo attract people with moderate views, but as somebody said in here, lack of promotion and the time slot the show is aired made this show unknown to many. Atleast, we could do our part by promoting this forum, and thus by bringing in more viewers.

Wish they could extend this for couple of months more.

this is a problem with all of zee show, they are not promoted, the only show that zee promotes is KKB, every other show has to look after itself.
Most of zee other shows it is the different forum and word of mouth that is pushing these shows and making them popular.

This will come on Netflix soon I feel. Notice that a few ZEEL shows that have had relatively short runs have been added on Netflix.

So this after the show has finished airing, may turn up on Netflix some months afterwards.
