Suman glowered at Shravan gesturing him to speak up but he shook his head.
She fisted her hands and threatened him silently, yet he still didn't speak. She promised herself she was going to exact her revenge as he continued to smile politely and listening to Nanaji as he told a story.
Seeing that he wasn't going to speak any time sooner, she stood sighing heavily and turned to leave when Nanaji called her.
"Ji Nanaji?" she glanced over.
"Kahan jaa rahi hai, bait yahan" he pointed.
"Nahi Nanaji, mujhe bohut kaam hai" she answered offering a polite smile. Darpok ke saat baitiye aur baat kijiye she mumbled.
Shravan arched his brows noticing her mumbling to herself, she turned away and walked out and he knew she was angry. Sumo style angry.
How was he to make her understand?
Shravan Malhotra was irrevocably in love with his stupid best friend Suman Tiwari, he knew it, she knew it but none of the family knew it yet.
Suman first wanted her family to know first but then he wanted his father to know as his father could've come and spoken to Nanaji about their relationship.
He knew that Nanaji would be upset coming to learn that under his nose whilst acting to be friends he and Suman were much more. He was against the idea of girlfriend-boyfriend relationships and Shravan didn't want to ruin any relationship.
They hadn't intended on going down this route as their friendship grew, it just happened. He couldn't see anyone in his Sumo's place. She was an integral piece of his life and always will be.
Once Nanaji retired to bed after a game of chess, Shravan decided to look for his feisty girlfriend who was no doubt cursing him mentally.
He found her in the yard swinging and cursing upwards.
"I just had to fall for that coward haina? Why couldn't I have fallen for someone strong, handsome and brave like my Salman Khan or my Shah Rukh Khan?"
"Indian cinema!" he called out settling besides her, "They're behind a tv screen and they're not brave or strong. They're acting" he informed her.
"Chup! Darpok kahin ke. You can't even speak to Nanaji about us" she scowled. "Do you even know I'm pushing you to tell Nanaji about us?" she questioned.
He shrugged.
"How could you be so stupid despite being a top lawyer, Shravan?" she huffed smacking her forehead. "Mamaji is bringing some guy over to see me this weekend".
"So... see him" he drawled lazily swinging his legs in and out.
She looked at him stunned pushing her hair from her face and narrowed her eyes. "What did you just say?"
"You heard me. See him" he laughed.
"What is so funny?" she smacked his arm.
"Sumo, sumo, sumo" he straightened and pinched her cheeks. "You're going to see him only na? You're not going to say yes to him na?"
Oh aisi baat hai she thought. "When you're there, why would I say yes?" she answered.
He grinned brushing his nose with hers, "Accha bohut raat ho chuki hai, mujhe jaana hai. I'll call you later okay" he stood.
"I'll be sleeping early, I've got work tomorrow and this big order for a wedding that I need to help Preeta with" she informed.
"Okay, by the way I'll be here when the guy comes around" he told her.
"Okay" she grinned sweetly, he surprised her when he leaned down pressing a small peck to her lips and rushed out. She chuckled shaking her head, he'd stolen kisses from her before but never in her own home especially right outside in the yard.
She recalled their first kiss, she was so nervous as he'd closed the distance. It was only a few days after they'd confessed to one another and he'd took her out on their date.
The press of his lips against hers had her toes curling, she touched her lips and glanced in the direction he walked out in.
She wanted to go after him and demand he kiss her properly as he did when he kissed her for the first time, she wanted his large arms engulfing her and his body pressing into hers...
Sumo snap out of it she told herself and smirked as she now looked forward to the weekend. Her bacchu boyfriend was so sure she'd say no to the guy, so why not play along for a while?
---Saturday Afternoon---
Suman dressed in her red and white anarkali, her wrists adorned with her white bangles, small silver studs in her ears, and a small cluster pendant adorning her neck. She applied makeup to her face deciding if she was going to play this part, she was going to give it her all to teach her boyfriend a lesson - never be too confident and a coward.
"Di... Oh wow" Preeti walked over looking at her sister's reflecting and hugged her from behind. "Kya baat hai di? You want to get married fast?" she winked.
"Kya pata" Suman answered shrugging her shoulders.
"Anyway, I came to tell you that Shravan bhaiyya has come with Ramnath uncle. They're sat outside with Nanaji. Mama ne kahan ke woh loug aate hi honge" she informed.
"Ramnath uncle?" Suman gleamed wondering if Shravan will be doing as she'd asked. Will he be telling Nanaji about her and him?
"Yeah he's here" Preeti nodded.
"Okay, tu jaa" she told her. Should I go and eavesdrop or not? She pondered.
She did want to know what they say about her and wanted to see how Shravan speaks up about their relationship, she decided to eavesdropping was a great idea. They wouldn't know and she'd see her boyfriend in a new light - not in the darpok light she was seeing him in currently. Suman stood and walked out of the room only to be stopped by mamaji.
"Suman, woh loug agaye hai" she informed.
Perfect timing! She grated inwardly. "Aayi mamiji" she mumbled and followed behind her.
"Yeh hamari Suman hai" Mami introduced.
Suman greeted them exchanging small pleasantries and sat down besides mamiji. Her eyes drew to Shravan who'd sat so confidently glancing up and around then returning his gaze to his phone and tapped away.
Yahan sab mere shaadi discuss kar rahe hai aur woh bacchu phone pe...
"Preeti" she whispered nudging her sister.
"Kya hai di?" Preeti looked at her questioningly.
Suman whispered into her ears softly, though Preeti shook her head at first but under Suman's fierce glare she huffed and spoke up.
"Mama, hume Rajiv aur Di ko akele main baat karne dete hai. Main bhi di ke saat chale jaungi. Akhir un dono ko..."
"Haan, yeh teek hoga" Mausi agreed. "Ek dusre ko jaane toh pasand karenge na"
Preeti smiled and looked between Rajiv and Suman, she stood and led them out, all the while Shravan stared with his jaw dropped. His girlfriend was going to be alone with that chimp!
"Main bhi jata hoon" he stood abruptly.
"Tu kyun jayega Shravan?" Ramnath looked up at his son.
"Papa, Sumo meri best friend hai. Mujhe toh dekhna haina ke woh..."
"Jaane do usse Ramnath" Nanaji chuckled.
Shravan smiled and walked out in the direction of the others, he found them in the yard sitting opposite each other. Rajiv smiling like an idiot. Suman noticed him and looked away offering a smile to Rajiv.
He walked over sitting down and looked between them.
"Shravan bhaiyya aap yahan..." Preeti looked confused.
"Haan. Toh?"
"No, nothing" she shook her head. "Anyway, Rajiv what do you do?"
Whilst Rajiv spoke about his job, Shravan looked at Suman narrowing his eyes.
Kya hua? Suman arched her brows questioningly.
He eyed Rajiv and lifted his brows.
She smirked discreetly pointing at Rajiv and gave a thumbs up.
He frowned, his eyes seemed as if they were about to bulge out of his sockets.
He shook his head and gave her a thumbs down.
She didn't respond as Rajiv directed a few questions asking about her job, her hobbies.
She answered them ever so sweetly, batting her eyelashes and giving him her best smile. They even laughed at a few jokes that Rajiv narrated.
Mausi called them back inside a while later, as they all stood to leave Shravan grabbed Suman by her wrist holding her back ensuring no one saw as Preeti and Rajiv walked out laughing as something said.
"Shravan" Suman hissed glancing over her shoulder. "What are you doing?"
"What am I doing? Sumo, what are you doing? Yahan tum..."
"Main kya?" she pulled her arm and crossed her arms. "Bolo, main kya Shravan Malhotra?"
"Sumo, you were chatting away, flirting and..."
"Flirting? Flirting? Did you just say flirting?" she countered angrily, pointing her index finger to his face almost touching his nose. "Look here Mr Overconfident Arrogant Tree! I was not flirting, I was playing along just like you said. Why are you panicking for? You were confident that I was going to say no right?"
"What?" he looked at her confused. "Kya bak rahi ho?"
"Dikhati hoon" she told him turning around and hurrying inside.
"Sumo" he called after her. "Sumo"
"Suman, Rajiv ke ghar waale haan kehdi" Mami informed smiling brightly.
"Kya?" she looked confused and straightened hearing Shravan's footsteps. "Oh" she giggled shyly. "Mujhe..."
"Mujhe Suman pasand hai" Shravan blurted out.
Suman glanced over her shoulder at him, her eyes widening in shock.
She didn't want to turn around and see her nanaji's reaction. Shravan even closed his eyes waiting for the smack of Nanaji's walking stick across his body. He stiffened and decided he was going to let Nanaji hit him as much as he wanted then he was going to confess as to how good of a husband he'd be to his Suman. He opened his eyes hearing the laughter of Nanaji and Ramnath, others slowly turned and looked just as confused. Suman frowned in confusion and noticed Rajiv laughing with his parents.
"Nanaji aap teek toh hai?" Suman asked concerned.
"Hum sab teek hai suman" Ramnath answered laughing. "Tum dono teek nahi lag rahe ho" he pointed. "Tum logoun ko kya laga, chup chup kar pyar karoge aur hume pata nahi hoga?"
"Suman, tere Nanaji ko bhi bata nahi sakti ti?"
"Nanaji woh..."
"Suman, we're old but we're wiser than you both" Ramnath chuckled. "And Shravan, you.." he shook his head.
"Papa... woh... hum..."
"Shravan ko maine bataya ta lekin woh darpok nikla" Suman accused.
"What?" Shravan turned narrowing his eyes. "If you were so brave, why didn't you express yourself huh?"
"Shut up. I'm a lady, you're supposed to prove yourself. Not me" she countered.
"Bas karo" Ramnath said.
Shravan and Suman quietened however their eyes drew to Rajiv and his parents.
"Lekin..." Suman started.
"Rajiv ke parents mere acche dost hai. Maine pehle se bata diya ta" Ramnath explained how he'd approached his friend and asked for his help in getting his son to confess. He hadn't expected the day to come, he'd expected Shravan to confess before Saturday came round.
"It's clear, I don't exactly have a clever son despite being a good lawyer".
"Papa" Shravan frowned.
"Sahi toh kahan..." Suman murmured. "Darpok kahin ke".
"Waise aaj Rajiv aur Suman ki nahi, lekin Suman aur Shravan ki shaadi ki baat karenge" Nanaji informed smiling at Suman. She straightened, her cheeks flushed and she felt her heart beating rapidly. She looked up at Shravan who'd looked as pleasantly surprised and turned to her with a great big grin adorning his face.
As the evening came to an end, Ramnath took leave from Nanaji and headed out with Shravan, Suman retreated to the roof where she and Shravan confessed their feelings to one another. She couldn't believe it was happening for real, she was marrying him.
"What happened?" Ramnath looked over when Shravan halted.
"I can't find my phone, I'll be right back Papa. I've got my car, why don't you head home? And I'll meet you there" he suggested.
"Sure" Ramnath answered smirking and climbed into his car, Shravan turned around once his father had driven off and slipped back into the house using the secret entrance and headed up to the roof where he knew for sure, Suman was stood enjoying the night sky.
He paused at the top of the stairs watching as she tilted her head and closed her eyes with a great big smile on her face.
Suman gasped when she felt large arms wrap around her, she turned around swiftly and grinned. "It's really happening Shravan, we're going to be getting married".
Shravan nodded cupping her cheeks and brushed his nose against hers, "Two weeks Sumo, just two weeks and you're going to be mine. All mine" he murmured.
Happy tears burned her eyes as the reality sunk in, she was going to be his wife. She wasn't marrying some stranger, she was marrying the love of her life, she was marrying her best friend. No one would be able to love her as much as Shravan, even if he was a little darpok sometimes. She threw her arms around him and he lifted her off her feet in a bone crushing embrace, she giggled as he twirled her.
"I love you Sumo" his lips grazed her earlobe.
"I love you too darpok" she laughed.
He caught her chin and covered her lips with his, nibbling on her lips and kissing her passionately, he placed her down walking her to the nearest wall and caging her in whilst continued to kiss her fiercely. "2 weeks and I'm going to shower you with all my love" he whispered against her lips, his hands teasingly grazing her sides.
She tilted her head back gasping heavily, he trailed gentle kisses down her slender neck and nipping her skin.
"Shravan" she murmured lacing her fingers into his thick hair and tugged.
"2 weeks..." he traced his finger against her lips and shared one final kiss before pulling away. "I'll be back in 2 weeks to take you away and make you mine" he told her.
She smiled. "I'll be waiting"
"I love you" he pressed a kiss to her forehead.
She closed her eyes responding "I love you too"
