Good, now the tickets will be cheaper. The Entertainment Tax are very high in some of the states.
Hope more people will now come to watch movies in theater now. But regional films who were enjoying exemption will get affected.

The entertainment industry in India is facing the challenge of double taxation on such transactions.[2] No State Entertainment Tax Applicable on Gross Tkt Value .

  • 1.Andhra Pradesh - 20% (15% for Telugu Films)
  • 2.Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir,Rajasthan, Punjab and Uttaranchal (Nil)
  • 3.Bihar - 50.00%
  • 4.Delhi- 20.00%
  • 5.Gujarat -20.00% (Nil for Gujrati Films)
  • 6.Haryana -30.00%
  • 7.Jharkhand -110% (Nil for Jharkhand Films)
  • 8.Karnataka -30% (Nil for Kannada Films)
  • 9.Kerala- 30.00%
  • 10.Madhya Pradesh -20.00%
  • 11.Maharashtra -45% (Nil for Marathi Films)
  • 12.Orissa -25.00%
  • 13.Tamil Nadu -15% (Nil for Tamil Films)
  • 14.Uttar Pradesh -30% to 40%
  • 15.West Bengal- 30% (2% for Bengali Films)

Entertainment tax is 40% in Maharashtra. The replacing GST tax rate is a blessing in disguise for all Maharashtra residents!

The state governments are expected to continue to give benefits to regional films.

Yup, also the embedded credit benefits (ie excise that the production houses pay today for purchasing all kinds of tools/ equipments is not creditable today).

but will be creditable on GST scenario. So their overall cost of making a movie comes down to that level.
