I really don't think that it is the way we are thinking. I've seen this happen so many times before in serials where somebody is in life threatening danger and another character is reminded of the death of a person they loved seeing the situation and calls that person they are trying to save by that dead person's name. It happens way too many times. That scene will be shown only to portray neil's devastation that he has experienced and locked away in regards to his feelings of losing the girl he loved.

It is quite possible tht cvs in this scene may portray his devastation rather than bringing Avneil closer. If thy fall in love this early it wouldn't sound true nd natural.
