You said it so right. Chandra trying to insult or instigate Nandini in private to admit her feelings for him is a different matter altogether. Even that I quite don't buy as he doesn't still trust that she did not kill Durdhara. Whatever the reason for his irritable behavior even if warranted as he is unsure of Nandini's innocence and hence is peeved at her, Chandra should still not treat Nandini like a maid whether in front of VS or in private. That is going a bit too far. If he distrusts Nandini, jail her, banish her, do not entrust Bindusar to an alleged murderess. If Chandra is confused about his feelings for Nandini, so be it. But he is a King and needs to show public composure and control and not treat his wife in such a dismissive and contemptuous fashion.
