Hi All
I am back with a new post on Samay. I just noticed that my first thread on this forum still attracts viewers, who even now reply back with their comments (I am so grateful to you all for appreciating it so much).
So, coming to this topic, what is this post about? It's about -
SAMAY AS SACH. TIME AS TRUTH.
I know big words. But, this is the impression that Samay gave me while Friday's (April 14, 2017) episode was airing. He was an ideal witness. Now, why do I say that? Because, a good witness should state what he saw and NOT what he interpreted (by virtue of his presence on any scene of crime). That is why he is called an eye witness. Any ideal witness should be objective. They are discouraged from drawing conclusions.
Now, why do I think Samay fulfils this criterion (mentioned hereinbefore)? I'll try to explain the same by drawing on the very dialogues that Samay uttered.
1. On being asked about the reason behind his presence (at the crime scene), he replied:
"Ayaan ne us raat bohut pi rakkhi thi. Bohut nashe mein tha aur bohut gusse mein bhi tha. Mujhe laga ki kahin use kuch ho na jaayein. Bike pe jaa raha tha toh maine socha ki main bhi uska peechha kar ke dekhoon ki sab theek toh hain." He didn't say I was worried that Ayaan was going to harm Maya. I know most of the audience have criticized the Counsel for the Prosecution. But, herein, the very same man played his cards well by implying that Samay was worried on Maya's behalf (because of Ayaan's behaviour).
2. On the allegation of Ayaan doing "zabardasti" with Mayaji, Samay's exact words were:
"Ayaan zabardasti nahin kar raha tha."
3. On being asked what did he see Ayaan and Maya doing respectively, Samay answered:
"Woh, Mayaji zameen par thi. Chilla rahi thi. Aur Ayaan unke upar tha."
4. On being asked about what Maya was saying, he clarified:
"Woh help ki liye chilla rahin thi, bachane ke liye chilla rahin thi"
5. Then comes the question about what action Samay took, to which his reply was:
"Maine Ayaan ko Mayaji ke upar se kheecha"
6. On being asked to describe Maya's condition, Samay's answer was:
"Unke kapde phate huye the, unki puri body par ghav the, khoon beh raha tha, woh dari huyi thi, ro rahi thi, jaise jaise" (The conclusion is for a logical person to make).
My aim while noting down each and every dialogue uttered by Samay is not to say that he does not have bad intentions. He may very well be in cahoots with Maya (provided that the latter has tried to implicate Ayaan in this mess, which till now is not a proven fact). I am not even implying that Samay's motive is pure (he himself indicated by his thoughts that he would always support Maya). But, in the court, he still was a model witness. As, regardless of his motive, Samay spoke about what he saw only and did not utter a single word more (the sach ke seeva kuch nahi boloonga part). It was the Counsel for the Prosecution who played with words (even twisted them) [as any good lawyer should] and the Judge herself seemed convinced by his argument.
What I loved was that he was not given OTT dialogues.đ Neither did he have a screaming fit (like most witnesses in daily soaps are prone to have).đ He was not even shown as being sarcastic'. In real court, sarcastic comments are frowned upon. So, yes, his testimony was short, plain (without double meaning) and lucid - all very desirable traits one should have when one is deposing before the court.
I have tried to not be swayed by prejudices while putting forth my point of view. However, some subjectivity is bound to creep in, especially when you absolutely admire the actor playing the character. Till now, I have found Samay to be a very intriguing character.đ His viewpoint is unusual. I liked him when he silently accepted Maya manhandling (for want of a better word) him in the car scene. I also like his approach/attitude to life as seen in his introductory scene (with Arjun) or the pub scene or even the second kitchen scene (where he tells Saanjh to support her friend). However, I am not oblivious to his faults, as I cannot condone him for using Saanjh to get closer to Maya or even pretending to be non-drinker, yet drinking in isolation (I am not against drinking, but lying here).
Samay had once famously said "Samay sirf sach dekhta hain". He also impressed me once by reminding Saanjh (before the whole courtroom drama started) that the whole case was about Ayaan not Maya.đđź I hope that truth can come to light through Samay [I don't need him to play an active role, but still be the bearer of truth and light (I don't know whether I'm making sense here.)]
I request everyone to share their viewpoints (I am apprehensive whether anyone would even bother to read the whole post. It took me a long time to jot down this post in order to be accurate).
Also, this is another chance for you all to play lawyers. You may not agree with my view and have pertinent points to back up your side. I would like to hear relevant arguments (valid ones and even emotional ones) even if they are against Samay's credibility as a witness.
I apologize for this late post. I watch busy watching IPL matches.
Warm regards
