Aapne Pyar Ke Sapne Sach Huye - I love this song.
There was another nice song Haye Wo Pardesi - Haire Pora Bashi

Bandini (1963) - it's a short story taken from a large collection of stories, the author worked as a jailer in real life ... this is one of the cases during his long career... so partly true.
Lal Patthar (1974)
Hum dil de chuke sanam...don't think it was mentioned in the credit ... but everyone knows...the book is so much better
Actually there are many more ..especially if we include the novels/stories that were made into movies...

Rajnigandha was a cute movie with lovely songs.
Chhoti Si Baat with same cast of Amol Palekar and Vidya Sinha was a hilarious movie by Basu Chatterjee, its a gem!
I love Premchand's short stories, my favorite in school days. But which of his stories have been made into films? Im not aware of too many film versions of his stories.

Yes, Bengali authors like Saratchandra, Bankimchandra, Tagore, their novels have been made into films multiple times in many languages.

Bimal Roy's Devdas captured the ego and eccentricity of title character better I think.
SLB as usual concentrated more on set decor, costumes, lavish sets, chandeliers etc
But I think SRK managed to nail the egoistic eccentric characterization quite well.

Basu Chatterjee movies had more western influence... I think Chotti Si Baat, Pasand Apni Apni, Shaukeen were inspired by U.K. or U.S. movies but he didn't blindly ape them like they do now...
No cringeworthy copycat moments in his movies... Pasand Apni Apni is my favorite

Premchand - Satyajit Ray's first and only Hindi movie 'Shatraj Ke Khiladi' was based on his short story.
Ray made another one of his short story (Sadgati) into a telefilm

The very first film inspired by a Munshi Premchand book was Mazdoor, way back in 1945, followed by Heera Moti (1959), which was based on a short story Do Bailon ki Kahani'.

Then came Godan (1963) starring Raj Kumar and Kamini Kaushal and in 1966 Gaban...

There might be others too..
