One thing I find interesting is the tendency Zee (and others) has to show wealthy families in their serials. These families are at the heart of the show.
When you think of GKLB, there are some "economic" issues that perhaps we don't notice because it is a serial, and personalities speak for themselves.
Saraswati not being allowed to marry her love Kshitij because of his "status." Instead, they marry her off to a psycho--a rich psycho, of course.
Kshitij was also the one that was conned into going to jail by rich men who wanted what they wanted at all costs.
Kajri's issue is more about control and deceit. But as a "dancer" of the other kind, she did not have money. Instead rich men threw money at her..clearly it wasn't enough for our greedy little Kajri who targeted and married into a rich family.
Karan in the beginning was a sweet oaf. We really never knew who he was. But when it was revealed that he was a very successful businessman in addition to a great guy, the Garodias were more at ease about him and Lakshmi.
Let me ask you a question--If Karan was an ordinary guy like Kshitij (kind, protective, industrious), no fortune, no control over people and things, would he have been as sexy or attractive? Please think about it because it's a little gray. Subconsciously, I think money makes the character invincible to us, strong, accomplished, and powerful (think K's revenge plan, honeymoon, Sonia his live-in actress/"wife" ). Not everyone thinks of it this but we equate money with success and power, and that is sexy. I am NOT saying other things don't matter--like values, intelligence, humor--but like it or not, you can close your eyes and ears, money is at the back of the mind at some level. A clear exception is Yuvraj.
Any thoughts on this? Would love to understand it better.
