You know the drill. Here's the thread for today. If you refresh occasionally like you do for written update, you might be able to read as I update. I will start updating as the episode gets uploaded. You guys can continue your discussion. I will update as I go and change the title with EDITED when completed!!!
WARNING: Today's writing is full of biting sarcasm. Read at your own risk.
Before the episode starts today I'd like to say something. We all have some kind of family or other who are related to us by blood.
And then we have family who are not related to us by birth, but sometimes we love them more than some of our blood relations. Like life partner, best friend etc.
The difference is that the blood relations are assigned to us by birth and non-blood relations are our own choice.
Are the later any less important than the former?
And if they are, then by what right we expect a woman to give more importance to non-blood relations like her husband and his family over her own blood relations like her own family?
And if they aren't, then why do we expect a man to give more importance to his blood relations over non-blood relations like wife and her family?
Because we are used to consider double standard as the normal state. Which is why in a country like India where constitution gives equal rights to men and women in every sense, a law can pass where a man can divorce his wife if she refuses to take care of his parents, but doesn't grant the same right to a wife to divorce a man if he refuses to take care of her parents.
Because 1. A woman is expected to ditch her parents, her past life, her identity the day she gets married and 2. the women's family also don't expect their daughter to take the responsibility they expect their son to take. In fact, if she actually stands up for her family, her family members tell her that she should not consider them at all, but focus on her husband's family.
So if a woman's family is "Paraya" after marriage and she is outsider for her husband's family, then who is a woman's family?
And funnily enough, we judge those women, who stand up for their parents against their insensitive husband and applaud the men who do the same.
EPISODE:
The episode starts with the Sangeet function where Asha and Bijoy are welcoming guests. Bijoy doesn't want Dev in their family function. But Asha says that Bijoy should leave Dev alone. She doesn't want to create a scene. Bijoy says that Dev always create problem in these kind of occasion? He is wondering where is the boka (idiot)?
Me: I don't think Bijoy is at all unfair to expect Dev to not show up at Saurabh's wedding function. What will they introduce Dev as? Their daughter's ex-husband who has moved in with them?
I won't think any different if Nikki gets married and Ishwari doesn't want Sonakshi to show up there.
Heck, Ishwari and the rest of the family tried to even chuck Sonakshi out of the family picture on Dev's birthday while she was married to him. If Bijoy hadn't asked Sona to step in, even Dev had forgot his wife while he was busy clicking family picture. But then, he has to consider his wife as family before asking her to stand by him and as we all know, his wife was his toy to play with and his family was his family. Sonakshi finally understood the difference in the jungle.
Sona comes to Saurabh and asks why is he upset? Saurabh says that ever since Ronita came, she had been chatting with guests. She has no time for him.
Sonakshi goes, Awww... She never thought that Saurabh will talk like this one day. She encourages Saurabh to approach Ronita.
Jatin comes with someone named Payal there. Sona greets her. Payal says that she is looking beautiful. She asks about Soha. She said that Soha is coming down with her father.
Other guests are asking for Soha too.
Sona goes in search for Soha when she sees that Dev is coming down with Soha holding her hands. Soha is wearing a saree. Everyone praises her outfit.
Someone tells Bijoy that like Saurabh, Sona is also set with a husband.
Me: And this is exactly why Bijoy didn't want Dev to attend this function.
Payal praises Soha's outfit. Dev said that he just bought her the saree. But Soha wore it herself and also got ready on her own. He was surprised to see that. Actually her mother made her independent (said in a slight sarcastic tone).
Me: I have studied HR and the first thing HR teaches us is how to read tone and body language and you know what Bhaiya, your sarcasm I can clearly hear. Notice how you stressed on the word "independent"? But I can understand your frustration. For chauvinists like you independence and feminism bother just as much people like you bother me. You wish 1960 era returns and I wish, someone returns you to the era you jumped from.
Sonakshi, very bad. How dare you make Soha independent instead of a clingy, whining woman? Don't you know she is a Dixit? They have a standard to uphold.
Payal asks Dev if he remembers her. She came to their wedding.
Dev says, Miss Ghosh?
Payal is excited to know that Bhaiya remembers her.
Anyways, she leaves.
Soha asks her dad how did he remember her? Dev said that he doesn't remember her. Soha asks then how did he knew her name?
Dev says that he just guessed.
After all Bengalis only have two surnames, Bose and Ghosh.
Soha asks what if he was wrong?
Dev said that he would have faked it. He'd have said sorry, it was a mistake.
Me: Yep, that's the strategy Bhaiya is master at. Faking it. Faking love, faking respect, faking concern for anyone other than his own family. After all Mummy ne sikhaya hain. Family tradition, you see.
At Dixit house, Ishwari is brooding (as usual). Mamaji tells Ishwari that they are going to Vaishno Devi. Ishwari doesn't want to go but Mamaji says that they will go until it's Sona's turn to arrive at Dixit house. He says that the Goddess has called. Ishwari and him are going there.
Ishwari got shocked that he didn't ask her before he booked the ticket.
Mamaji said that he knows that she will be brooding until Dev comes. She can tell Goddess whatever in her head (Mamaji, did you ask the Goddess if she is in a mood to tolerate your liability?)
Ishwari agrees but she asks if Mama has booked the ticket. Mamaji said that he hasn't. He just wanted her to agree before he books the ticket. But now she agreed. So she can't say no.
Me: Wait, what? Maataji, you are expecting people to value your free will? When did you value anyone's free will? You mother and son actually expect things that you never offer others. How convenient...
Mamaji, the trick you played was lovely. You finally had some use. I wish the Goddess indeed call Maataji straight to her original adobe and never return back to us.
But why did you have to take your sister out of town? Didn't Dev let her know the new rules he set? Or did he thinks that he gets to be jerk to Sona's family while expecting fair treatment from them to his family? Will you take Maataji out of town every other week so that she can't break the rules that Dev expects Sona's family to follow yet doesn't have guts to deliver to his mother?
Dev walks to the kitchen and offers to help Sona who was arranging cold drinks. Sona refuses first. Dev says that he can help her and he won't demand payment for it.
Sona agrees.
Dev starts serving drinks.
Me: Arre Bhaiya. Nice to see you learned that helping a woman in womanly chores won't take away your manhood. I wish you had learned it when you were still together instead of running to Mummy.
Anyways, the lady Dev serves the drink to tells Sona that she is happy to see the three of them together.
Sona starts to refute her claim and then looks at Dev and trail of her statement without completing it. She remembers Asha's statement that it's a big day for Saurabh so they should not stretch this fight. She finishes her statement saying that it's because of Soha.
Me: Again, this is the reason Bijoy didn't want Dev in the function.
Bijoy sees Dev serving guests. He comes to him and takes away the tray and says that why is he serving guests? It's their guests and they can serve. He can go sit upstairs, jamai raja.
Me: Ek waiter hire nehin kar sakte aur bade aaye 500 crores ka malik. Sonakshi, aap business woman of the year ban gayee, lekin aukat abhi tak wohi ke wohi. Jao jaake sikho Radha se ki doosro ke paise pe raaj kaise karte hain. Yeh log to apne paiso pe bhi raaj karna nehin jaante.
Saurabh comes to Ronita and introduces himself. Ronita wonders why. Saurabh says that he was wondering if she forgot him because she was busy with guests since she arrived. Ronita says sorry and asks what's her punishment?
Saurabh says that she has to say I love you to him in front of everyone.
Ronita gets shy and refuses.
Me: I am just gonna ship Saurabh and Ronita from now on. Bhad mein jaaye baaki eff-ed up couples.
Sona comes there and teases them.
Soha comes running to Sona. Dev comes there and says that last time he didn't bring anything for them. But this time he brought a gift.
He gives them the gift. Ronita opens it and sees it's Saurabh and her picture. Ronita and Saurabh say wow. Sonakshi is happy to see Saurabh and Ronita happy. She asks Dev when did he do it? Soha says that Dev and her planned it in secret.
Sona looks at Dev and Dev raises his eyebrow like how did I do?
Saurabh thanks Dev as trainer and Ronita thanks Soha. And then Ronita tells Dev that it was a really good gift.
Me: Excellent Bhaiya. Aap to kamaal ke ho. Subah laath aur raat ko mithi baat kaise karte hain, woh to humko aapse sikhna chahiye.
Ab Mummy nehin hain to mithi baat nikal rahee hain, Mummy aayegi to aapki aukat bhi dikh jaayegi.
And Sonakshi, thoda khud ki aur apne family ki bhi izzat rakh lo. I mean agar rakhne layak izzat ho to. I am not saying that you abuse Dev. But melting pot of honey is quite disloyal to your father isn't it? You know, the one hates Dev because he hurt you? But then you are a woman. Isse jyada kya expect kar sakte hain?
Asha tells Bijoy to stop chasing Dev. She asks him to ignore people's comments. Bijoy says that he has to clear the situation.
Asha says that people will talk. Let them. She doesn't want any issues. She can talk to kids, but it's difficult to convince him. Now because of him, she is having to shout. Dev has got Soha ready so nicely. Why is he after him?
She drags Bijoy away.
Me: Asha, yesterday you were claiming that Bijoy had ill temper to the point that you compared your situation with Sona's situation. I still haven't seen evidence of you being the broken woman even like Sona was. You still call all the shots and Bijoy listens to you.
Now let me tell you something Asha. A man with serious enough anger management issue that can compare to what Sonakshi faced, won't have ever mellowed down to the level where his wife can talk to him in the tone you are using and dragging him around and he won't get angry enough to shout at you back. Unless you claim that he had a personality transplant sometime down the road which I am pretty sure isn't possible.
At Bose house, Soha asks Dev for dance. She said that he promised her. Dev is excited to dance with his daughter.
Asha and Bijoy come there. Soha tells her that she is going to dance with her dad.
Asha says that's very nice. But she asks Soha to come with her for a second.
She leaves Bijoy there with Dev.
Bijoy awkwardly asks Dev if he brought the saree for Soha. Dev says yes.
Bijoy says that he got such a beautiful Bengali dress for Soha. What is he wearing like a lafango (I am not sure what it means).
Dev says that he is wearing denim. He doesn't know how to wear Denim.
Payal offers to teach him how to tie a dhoti.
Then she leaves with Gunni who was staring at Dev with a huge smile on her face.
Bijoy asks Dev if he thinks they are mad for wearing dhoti?
Dev defensively answers, he didn't say that.
Bijoy says that this is Bengali function. Everyone will wear dhoti here.
Dev says that he doesn't have dhoti. How would he wear it?
Bijoy says that he has come to Bengali's house. They have a lot of dhoti in stock. He very saccharine sweetly says that not to worry, Jamaiji. He will put dhoti on him.
Dev doesn't want to wear dhoti from Bijoy.
Me: Bijoy, stop giving fake excuses. Asha has twisted your arms so you are trying to get back on her good books. Even your son is not wearing dhoti. He is wearing sherwani.
And Bhaiya, I see today the respectful man is present. Aren't you glad that your mother didn't gatecrash this occasion for you to bring out your inner jerk? So what is it about her that turns you into an insensitive jerk?
Dev tries to give Soha's excuse. But Bijoy convinces him and takes him upstairs.
He brings Dev to a room with kurta and dhoti.
Dev asks what's wrong with the outfit he is wearing?
Bijoy says that this is his son's Sangeet. He didn't come to a camp. If he can't respect himself, at least he should think about their respect. If he can't do it, then he will tell outside that he has got sick and can't come down.
Dev protests that his but Bijoy doesn't give him any chance and leaves.
At Dixit house, Elena got ready to go but Vicky stops her.
Elena asks why she can't go? Vicky can meet Sona, Golu can meet Sona, Buaji (Ishwari) can meet Sona, Dev is staying there and in a few days Sona will come at this home to stay. So why can't she go?
Me: All logical point Elena. But then, did you expect fair treatment from Dixits? You poor delusional woman. When have they been ever fair to anyone that they will be to you who is an outsider?
Vicky doesn't give reasons. He just says that she can't go. Elena refuses to listen to Vicky.
Ishwari interferes and says that she can't go.
Elena is surprised. Ishwari said that she has never stopped Elena from keeping relationship with them. But she is stopping her now.
Ishwari is buttering up Elena in a saccharine tone that she has sacrificed a lot for this family. But Bose family don't want anyone from this house to go there. That's what they said to her and threw her out. (Me: My God, what a lier).
Elena says that she is also daughter of that house.
Ishwari said but she broke all relationship with them. Now she should think about her husband's family first. She refuses to let Elena go and doesn't let Elena decide.
Me: Of course, right now she is off no use to her. When she wanted to use her son, she did. Now Elena going to Bose house is useless. So she is stopping her with fake excuses. What a shitty woman. Vaishno Devi, do us a favour and please give her a push off the mountain. I know you don't want to listen to her whining either.
I am glad that these two scenes ran parallel. Because I think this comparison is a must watch for everyone.
On one side, Bijoy is, for all intent and purpose, speaks rough to Dev. But what he does, he does it openly and never causes any lasting harm beyond annoyance.
On another side, Ishwari, who is saccharine sweet, but she plays a deeper game in the back and can plunge a knife while patting someone's back.
And Dev insulted that man and worships this woman. Yes, I am judging him big time today because I am pissed at him.
Anyways, back in Bose house, Dev grumbles and tries to wear dhoti but he can't. He calls Sonakshi.
Sonakshi picks up phone. Dev says that he is stuck upstairs with dhoti. Sona gets surprised. Dev explains that her father told him that until he wears dhoti, he can't come downstairs and he has come there to spend time with his daughter, not with dhoti. He tells her to come and help wear the dhoti.
Sonakshi smiles a smug smile and asks if the great Dev Dixit is asking for help from her.
Dev says that he doesn't need her help. Sonakshi says okay and was about to cut the call when Dev says please.
Sonakshi asks again what he said. He says that she will come there and tie the dhoti on him. Sonakshi said that she will do nothing of that sort.
Dev says that if she doesn't come then he will come out as is in his underwear. Then the party will get spoiled and she will be responsible for it.
Sonakshi warns him. But he says that he will count to ten and if she doesn't come upstairs, then he will come downstairs. Then he cuts the call.
Sonakshi comes upstairs.
Me: No comment. Those who enjoy forced romance, enjoy. Those who don't, ignore.
Asha and Bijoy come to a room where Ronita's parents are sitting with a bunch of jewellery. Bijoy tells Ronita's parents that they made it clear that they don't want anything except Ronita. That they don't believe in these kind of thing.
Ronita's mother says that these are not for dowry. These are the jewellery she made for Ronita which she will wear on her wedding day. She thought to show it to them and take their suggestion.
Asha tells Bijoy that that's why she says that first listen and then talk.
Bijoy laughs. (Me: This guy totally shows all signs of past Hulk minus gamma ray. I can totally see it)...
Ronita's father says that he had told his wife not to bring all this here. But she is his wife. When do they ever listen? They all laugh.
Me: Cute scene. You can definitely watch it. Asha didn't impose her choice on Ronita and Ronita's mother reached out to Asha.
Sonakshi comes storming at Dev's room and says that she is not his PA. Why does he keep calling her?
Dev answers, whom should he call? Saurabh?
Sonakshi says that she doesn't wear dhoti. So how will she know? She doesn't know how to tie a dhoti. She is not his personal stylist. He should try something else.
So Dev grabbed her hand and pulled her. Eye lock and romantic tung tung in the background because force is romantic.
Sonakshi says Dev. Dev says Sonakshi. Sonakshi asks him to leave her.
Dev says what does she think that she will leave him here with dhoti and walk away? This sangeet or dhoti isn't his problem. Her father forced it on him. And if he stays in that room, she will stay there too.
Sonakshi says to let her go or else...
Dev asks then what?
Sonakshi says not to be stubborn. Let her go or else.
So Dev jerks her to him again.
Me: Okay. Time please. First of all, this pulling and pushing with force doesn't look at all romance to me. In fact, it looks like something an ass will do.
And Dev, since you don't give a damn about anyone but your daughter here, why don't you wear the kurta over your torn jeans and go downstairs? What will Bijoy do to you? Fulfil your purpose and spend time with your daughter.
What's the point showing respect with the clothes he gave you when you could not respect the daughter he gave you?
Sonakshi tells him that people are waiting for her downstairs. She is about to leave when Dev turns her and twists her arm in the back and holds her in the front. You know, how the beloved fathers, husbands, brothers treat us. What? The men in your life don't twist your arm like that? Awww... You haven't experienced true lau then. I pity you all including myself.
My husband never even walked towards me in a threatening manner. I am so deprived of true lau, Bhaiya style.
Dev whispers in her ears with passion/tashan/loose motion? style and says that his daughter is waiting for him downstairs.
Sonakshi bites back, our daughter.
Dev says that the choice is hers. Either she can stay there with him or she will help her and they will go downstairs.
He lets her go and says that enough of Bose family drama. He can't tolerate anymore. If he can't spend time with his daughter, then she can't spend time with her either.
Me: He is such a great dad. Let me applaud him. He takes after his mother's style of parenting. How to put himself first.
I wonder what he would have done if Sona had said on her muh dikhai that enough of this Dixit family drama. If she can't spend time with her husband, then his family can't spend time with him either.
I can tell you what he would have said. Exactly what he had said the night they broke up. That she is a bad wife who broke his family.
I can see all the similar scenes in different context in this season. Except, CVs are justifying them with forced romance.
But then, Sonakshi prefers this style.
Downstairs, photographer is taking picture of Saurabh and Ronita. The photographer asks Saurabh to smile. He says that he is not being able to. Should he force it?
Ronita pinches him and asks him to smile.
Saurabh says that he won't smile until she says I love you.
Ronita says how can she say in front of everyone.
Me: Saurabh dada, your parents didn't train you at all. You can't force your own smile and upstairs your darling ex-jiju turned trainer is forcing your sister. Go get some more training from him on how to be a man.
Bijoy and Asha come there. They want to take a family picture and look for Sona.
Upstairs Sonakshi pushes Dev away and says is he thinking this is joke? Everyone is waiting for her downstairs.
Dev says that joke or not, she is stuck with him from all sides. If she shouts, everyone will come upstairs and will find her. And if she doesn't go downstairs, everyone will come up anyway looking for her and they will see them together.
Sona asks what does he mean?
Dev says that if people see her with him worried and what about thier aan, baan aur shaan.
He walks to Sonakshi and says what will happen to you Miss Bose.
Sonakshi bites back, It's Dr. Bose for you, Mr. Abhodro.
More eyelock.
Me: đ¤˘
Anyways, Bijoy is knocking on the door. She is about to respond. But Dev holds her mouth. Then Bijoy thinks that Dev is here busy tying dhoti. So he decides to look for Sonakshi elsewhere.
Soankshi jerks away from Dev and says how dare he.
Dev claims that he saved her. If she had shout and her father had saw them like this, her reputation would have suffered. She should tell him thanks.
Me: Sonakshi, why are you surprised? Did you expect him to change his attitude after becoming a father? People said you don't trust him girl, but you trust him more than even his mother would trust him.
Sonakshi says fine. She will help him.
She tells him that if he can use internet to tie flowers, she can also use internet to tie dhoti.
Dev thinks of past.
Sonakshi sees the video and gets started. Dev is staring at her.
Sonakshi tells him that she is not there to waste time with him. Hold hands up and stand straight.
Sona ties dhoti.
Sona looks at dhoti and says perfect. Dev also looks at dhoti and says, just perfect.
They look at each other.
Me: And the end of my patience. But I have a question for Bhaiya.
Bhaiya, since you are so innocent bachha who is as pure as dewdrop, do you have the guts to re-enact this scene in front of Soha whose mother's arm you twisted? Can you repeat word for word, action for action so that Soha can see your true face? Sonakshi can repeat everything she said and did in front of her without altering her image in her daughter's eye. But I think you will turn monster in her eyes in an instant.
I just thought I will point out what a two-faced Dipshit you are. That's all.
PRECAP: In precap, Dev talks about love and walks to Sonakshi. He says how he loved only one woman in his life. Sonakshi looks at him, he looks at her. Their hair blows indoor without any air.
Me: And more fake romance to make up for douche bag behaviour today the CVs expect us audience to forget tomorrow.
