Singing the wrong notes!
There is something about Bollywood music. Nah"we are not merely talking about its numerous melodies, tragic numbers or item songs. It is about the musicians and singers in the past two decades who were seen singing wrong notes altogether leading to the disharmony in their real-lives musical concerts-that is their personal lives. Here are some of the top singers or music directors who hit the headlines as much for personal reasons as for grabbing the prestigious trophies for their remarkable work.
Kumar Sanu-Kunika duet!
Take your memories several years back. Kumar Sanu, the talented playback singer of Bollywood (termed as poor man's Kishore Kumar) was reigning in Hindi music world. He was criticised by many for lacking in originality of voice and for singing in a la Kishore Da style all the time. This nevertheless did not stop him from winning most of the Filmfare Awards for several years. But suddenly, Cupid struck this much married Babu Moshay. He started seeing Kunika, an out-of-work starlet.
Liking/infatuation/love soon took the shape of musical inspiration. Sanu's passion for music caught Kunika too and she overnight decided to turn singer with Bengali Babu's support. She took no time in cutting her first album titled Kunika: Laakhon Mein Ek (thankfully it wasn't followed by many). It also has a duet with Sanu called Soona Soona. Sanu's fancy for Bollywood babe caught media's eyes too and soon the hush-hush affair became very much public leading to ugly scenes in Sanu's house. As soon as his wife found out about the liaison, the relationship ended there and then.
Anu-Alisha spat!
Anu Malik- the famous music director (who has given remarkable musical hits like Border), has had his share of ups and down over all these years in Bollywood. Allegations like lifting the English tracks in the name of inspiration, not giving proper credit, piracy ...he has faced them all. His often-repeated justification-"Except God, no one is original" is well known. But the music director faced the music' when he was charged with sexual harassment by pop singer Alisha Chenoy (who had mesmerized the music lovers with her record-breaking album Made in India').
Anu-Alisha spat took an ugly turn when Alisha demanded Rs 26,60,000 as damages for sexual harassment. Anu, on the other hand, vehemently denied the charges saying, "She has to answer to God. You can be pardoned for a lot of sins but you can never be pardoned for a wrong allegation. She has to live with it." He even filed a Rs 2 crore defamation suit against the singer.
But their bitter ties became much better several years later as they decided to put their past behind. After years of acrimony between them, she recorded a song for him in Ken Ghosh's "Ishq Vishq".
Udit- Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh!
Udit Narayan, winner of several Filmfare Awards (National Award too) ranked among one of the most original and versatile playback singers in Bollywod, hit the headlines in the past few months for all the wrong reasons. The singer, who had so far enjoyed a clean reputation in the industry, suddenly faced the danger of losing all the adulation that he had earned.
Reel-life like drama entered his real life. And skeletons tumbled out of the cubboard. The whole nation woke up to know Udit's hidden secret. The situation was totally filmy. One man- two women (both claiming to be his legal wife). A woman named Ranjana Jha created major uproar at a hotel in Bihar claiming that she was Udit's first wife and demanded restoration of "what was due to her for all those years" but "was denied". Udit, underwent public humiliation following the revelation. He and his wife Deepa denied the allegations.
But what made the matter worse were that the evidences (photographs, ration card and other legal documents) submitted by Ranjana before Bihar's Women Commission were substantiated and found authentic. After months of bitter battle, charges and countercharges, denials in full public view, finally Udit accepted that Ranjana was indeed his first wife and shall remain so. Much to the amusement of media, she and Deepa denied having any differences between them and announced that they would live like sisters.
Sonu's marriage on the rocks!
Despite many denials, it is now an open secret that the most successful singer of Bollywood (in today's date), is indeed facing problems in his five-year old marriage to Madhurima. The singer-turned-actor-turned-singer (again) has reportedly split with his wife, though both continue to live under the same roof. Going by the media reports, the musical harmony between the duo seem to be totally out of tune.
Difference of opinion might be touted as the evident reason, but insiders have wasted no time in bringing in the third angle' in this love story. According to many, the S' factor, that is Sonu's reported proximity with singing sensation Sunidhi Chauhan might be a prominent reason for the wedding trouble. Both Sonu and Sunidhi (who separated from her director husband Bobby Khan) have denied the rumours.
The controversies surrounding singers could not be summed up without the mention of the alleged affair between music king Gulshan Kumar and his most favoured singer Anuradha Paudwal. Anuradha's dominance in T-Series empire (and also allegedly on its owner before the latter was brutally murdered) was believed to have fuelled the speculations.
So, if you think it is only Bollywood's melody or rhythm that sells, think again! Our music artistes can don the headlines for their real-life concerts too'.
