I have always wonder why actresses have to do item songs, bikini scenes, intimidate scenes? Is it necessary to have such scenes on films? BKD is a perfect example of a clean family film which became so popular despite not having single intimidate scenes. On the other hand, we have seen many films failing which were full of such scenes.

Almost all actresses of today have done bikini scenes, item songs in some of their films. But their most popular performances were from films that didn't had such type of scenes.

Deepika- Chennai Express, Piku

Kareena- Jab We Met

Priyanka- Barfi

Vidya-Kahani

Anushka- BBB, Sultan

Alia- DZ, UP

Kangana- Queen

Katrina- Nameste London, New York

So why actresses are told to project themselves as objects? Why so much importance on sex appeal? Because audience have accepted clean films without such bold scenes. I think audience look for a good storyline/characterization.

Wt ever u listed those Mv were hit bcz of strong story n performance

True, I think films can be made without those scenes. Many actresses are apprehensive but they don't have a say. Thats how BW works sadly.

A film needs performance and good storyline to succeed.

Actresses are told to do such scenes, and there are actresses to do such scenes.

And, it's all done to sell a movie.

important for doing commercial movies to cater to the front row audiences who will come out saying "mast maal hai" and also to the young college goers who dont understand acting

Those who dont display that sex appeal are labelled behenjis till they break the image. The audience which goes on day 1 to movies are bored males and college kids. Men or women have to appeal to them in movies.
