Can a singer/musician become more famous than actors in india?

Famous mean having their separate identity which become popular worldwide, famous not in term of voice of shahrukh khan or voice of salman khan etc , as an artist can they become more famous or equivalent to Bollywood stars . Singers in india always were treated like a vocal instrument and voices for others. Singers who made their mark in independent music in the era of indipop some how got popularity in a much broader way compare to those who have been just limited to playback and considered playback as their only singing carrier because indi pop had the music videos people got to know how this singer looks like . There is nothing called playback singing in any part of the world its just a bollywood funda 😉 Today is the era for singles do you think singles can help singers to create their separate market or they will be dependent on bollywood film music only

That indipop phase has gone but today we are living in times when singles get popular i believepublic should encourage singles too ...i remember sonu bac in 2007 or 08 said to rahul vaidya and abhijeet sawant that "Bollywood ko he manzil mat banow try to do something in private music because bollywood muisc ne hamare private music ke band bajaye huwe hai"

True, but the non-Bollywood sector isn't thriving. In fact, many singers who release pop albums are recreating old Bollywood hits. E.g. Armaan Malik's new album is full of recreated Bollywood songs.

The 90s actually saw hugely successful albums outside Bollywood from various genres, ranging from pop to folk.

I don't know enough about Rafi Saab and others of that era to say for sure.

Worldwide famous. Absolutely where people know them for their voice SPB is on a US tour now. He is so popular that even in Dallas there are two concerts for two days, yesterday(Telugu) and today (Tamil)

I would absolutely include classical Indian musicians Zakhir Hussain, Pandit Ravi Shankar who anyone who knows the Beatles knows about, the late Mandolin Srinivasan (he died in his 40s, he was a child prodigywho played carnatic music fusion in a German Jazz festival I think in his teens. The late M S Subbulakshmi who sang in the UN. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Shiv Kumar Sharma. I am forgetting so many or do not know of many. But these are not limited to just desi people, many people who enjoy world music enjoy them and go to their concerts. I've gone to concerts from childhood and believe me the people there are for the singers. They get standing ovations, they are sold out many times. People travel long distances to see them. And it is only for them.

When people go for concerts they go to see musicians not as the voice of a certain actor. The actor is totally forgotten. I can say that for sure.

In Punjab for sure ... all famous actors are singers first ... they get job as an actor bcz of their already established fan base as a singer

I don't think Badshah is that popular, like face wise among the general audience.. i dint even knew how he looked until i saw him judging the singing reality show currently airing on Star Plus..

In recent times, the singers i think who are widely known by their individual recognition & not just ''playback singers'' includes Honey Singh (since he also featured in many of his hit songs) & Arijit ..

BTW, to answer the TM .. NO, singer/musicians cannot become more famous than actors in Bollywood.. maybe in the future, but as of now..don't see it happening.
