Short story: Maya's love : Upt 03/16 Chp:1 & 2 : Page 1

She was running for her life it seemed. But it was ironic because she was running from her life. Heaving and puffing she ran trying to run as fast as she could. Once and for all she now knew that love was not in her destiny. And as she ran she took a look into her stomach her baby who had yet to be born. Would she atleqst have her baby's love she started wondering.

"Mayaaa..." Arjun called behind her and that voice brought her out of her trance . She ran for her life her baby's life. And then after a while she stopped hearing him calling her name. But she did not stop. She kept running and running as far as she could.
Once she realized there was no one and she left him back she stopped for breath or two. Panting and still trying to catch her breath. The cell that she had in her hand she brought it up and was about to dial when he covered it with her hand.

She looked at him and started to run but he caught hold of her.
" maya" he said " let me explain"
She tried her best to get herself out of his grip but he would not ease out.

" I will not let you go away so easily"
She stopped fighting
And looked him in his eyes
" yes you will let me go once you have my property, my money"

He held her hand still n she continued
" oh yes and then you will go to ur lover sanjhe is it"

He looked at her in amusement

"U knew what has happened with me and despite that you took advantage of me."

He let go of her hand and folded his own in a cross as if listening intently

" u really want to go there" he asked maya

" u started with your proposal, you left me in no position to deny it" he said and maya let out a disgusted sigh
" so this is your idea of revenge, take my money "
She said

" listen maya I love you , but I love saanj too, she is a friend who has seen me grow, I understand what u go through but you got to keep your trust in me"

" trust" she laughed

" trust my destiny to give me a father like Ashwin, trust my destiny to see my mother suffer in coma, trust my destiny to give me a life partner like you who is just using me and trust this baby to live up to ur blood and betray his own mother" she exclaimed " is that the trust you are talking about

Great OS! It's quite ironic how Maya seems to be running away from Arjun, because once upon a time, all she wanted was for him to chase her.

Chapter 1 - Destiny

Arjun stood there with his hand till to himself .

" you disgust me" said Maya " as my husband you disgust me , you used me for the riches ,"

She stopped all of a sudden
A blunt expression on her face

"Maya" Arjun called out

She touched her saree with her hand and brought her hand to th front and gaped at it
Horrified she then looked at him

Being genuinely concerned for her he immediately picked her up put her in his car and drove off to the hospital.
They did not utter a single word to each other
She because she was terrified beyond all
Him because he just saw blood on her hands meaning that a miscarriage was happening as they were moving towards the hospital.

It was as if in that moment she found what she had lost, whatever had happened between the two in Mauritius, it was as if she finally saw that Arjun again.
But then she looked at the blood on her hands bringing her back to her stark reality

Arjun put a consoling hand on her arm stating that he was there for her.
Yes she needed him to give the very same assurance before she began losing all the blood that was supposed to be their baby

He stopped the car at the hospital opened the passenger end of the car lifted her up and gestured her to put her arms around his neck.

She looked at him with concern and he assured her not to worry as no one would see her

It was a shAme she thought , a shame that all this was happening now.
She thought to herself " at a point when I should put my effort into crying to see that I am losing our baby I have nothing in my heart but vengeance for him because he couldn't be mine at heart"

All these thoughts were so compelling that she never realized when he reached in to th counter screamed for assistance to help his wife, who was losing blood, nor did she realize when she was laid on the stretcher and him saying " I am here maya " or themwheeling her into the OT and performing damage control.

What she did remember was waking up to the sound of silence at 1am at night, to see herself tied to the bed with injects andnot a single sign of Arjun near her.

She scoffed a muffled cry.
At her destiny
Her fate

At the far end of the spectrum
Arjun was at his shanti spot waiting for Saanjh to arrive,
As soon as he saw her arrive he hugged her and cried
And as a dutiful friend she tried to console her duffer.

" Saanjh , Maya and I we lost our baby"

Hearing this shocked her

For two reasons
First he called her by her name Saanjh
And second Maya lost the baby

" when did this happen Arjun" Saanjh asked " and how is Maya you should be with her"

" Maya is stable and in ththe hospital , I just left her a while back , thought I could get my head clear first before she wakes up, you see Saanjh things aren't going too well, between Maya and me and with her losing the baby, it's an emotional wreck, and "

" one that you can't handle right" she asked

He looked at her eyes unfazed
And then looked away

" all this time I have been in two minds" he stated " about Maya" he concluded

For a brief pause

Saanjh did not interrupt for a while until he spoke no more and hence intervened

" whatever the matter Arjun you must be with her, this must be as big a loss for her as it is for you" said Saanjh trying to keep her sanity between her love for Arjun and doing the right thing

" you are right Saanjh" said Arjun " I should be with her at this point despite everything that has happened between us"

" go home Saanjh,
Good night and thanks for always being there for me as a friend" he said and left to walk away towards his car and drive to the hospital as Saanjh looked at him go
" it's a destiny that I cannot. Change Arjun, you and Maya and me here by myself"

"the blood that was supposed to be their baby" 😭

Chapter 2- Mask

Arjun reached the hospital to see a sleeping Maya.

She was sleeping with innocence, thats what he thought and was worried about the events before her landing into the hospital.

Maya was not asleep, she was pretending to be asleep just as she did before meeting Arjun whom she considered the love of her life, it's ironic that he brought him to a safe sleep and he himself took her sleep.

Love brings us to all kinds of situations and makes us do weird things

Arjun paced toward Maya slowly,

Her heartbeats increasing by the moment , but to him she looked peacefully asleep

He sat next to her on her bed and was about to caress her when he thought otherwise

Maya was relieved that he decided otherwise because she would have had to break the act of sleeping that she was pretending otherwise.

" to see you asleep so peacefully" he started " Maya I don't know how to tell you tomorrow the news that I heard today"

" the baby" she remembered ,

In her anguish she completely forgets that she was going to be a mother.

No wonder god does this to her all the time ' she thought to herself

" what Arjun what happened to the baby" she muttered in her mind hoping he would tell her

Arjun kissed her on her forehead and slept next to her.

His breadth on her, stifled and yet loved. She was not sure what to do...

She decided to stare out of the window as Arjun drifted off to sleep and Maya could not as much as wink her eyes.

She kept looking at the window in her room as she started to see the sun rise and change the color of the clouds.

The nurse came in at 6:00am to find Arjun and Maya both asleep.

A smiler escaped her lips and yet the tragedy that her patient had yet to endure was depressing.

She did her rounds , checked Maya's blood pressure, her pulse, her tubes and making sure that all was okay she left

It was not until 8am when the patients relatives were allowed to come in and exactly at 8 Saanjh came in along with her brother, Ayaan , Vandana and her mom to a sight of Arjun sleeping next to Maya.

At any other day Vandana may have made the exception to enter in a room where Maya was but this was an exception. No matter how hard she had to be to protect her son, a mother losing her unborn child should never be something a woman should encounter on her own. At least that is what Saanj had to make Vandana understand for her to arrive at the hospital

The commotion woke up Arjun and he adjusted himself and went ahead to hug Ayaan.

Without sharing a word the brothers as if understood each other's pain.

" don't worry Bhai we are here for u and Bhabhi" said Ayaan , Saanjh observing distantly

Maya woke up to a sight wherein Arjun's entire family was present and hugging him.

But not a sight of her family members because A . Her father was dead

B. Her mom was in coma

It was a fate she willed no one would have

Saanjh looked at Maya and headed towards her

Maya was not in the right frame and if it hadn't been for the people she might have actually expressed her anger for Arjun and Saanjhs closeness at her.

" how are you Maya"

Sanjh asked coming close to her and as if bringing people's attention to her

" I am okay so far just lost a little blood but we should be fine" she said gesturing to her and her baby.

Saanjh smiled at her and then gazed at Arjun as if asking " does she not know"

Arjun signaled to her stating that he hasn't told her.

Seeing the ongoing signaling between the two Maya felt disgusted, here she was in the hospital and yet these two ... she thought...

Thankfully Ayaan started talking

"Bhabhi" he said taking his mother to her " we were worried when bhai called yesterday and hence Maa decided to come and meet you too"

"Ayaan you don't have to lie for your mom" said Arjun

"No bhai" he added " hain na saanjh"

Saanjh nodded in an affirmative.

Seeing all this Maya felt like she was watching a soap opera from the outside and all this was going on inside in a TV.

Wouldn't it have been nice if it was all funny instead of melodrama. Maybe could have helped lighten her mood she thought.

The doctor came in.

" Good MORNING Maya, and good morning to all, it seems like you have a lot of people who love you" he said

" no a lot of people who love my money" she thought

She smiled hesistantly

"okay so lets check a few things here" said the doctor and stated checking the chart and other things.

"Okay Maya, looks like you have a fighter baby here. With the amount of blood loss that you came in with it was impossible to survive, but you got a fighter in there " he said

Everyone gaped...

So it wasn't maya who was unawares it was them thought Arjun...and as if to make certain he asked " are you sure doc"

"what do you mean are you sure"

"I mean yesterday you guys told me something and today you are saying something"

"are you unhappy because of the news Arjun" maya asked

"no maya, its not that" said Arjun " but yesterday ..."

"it must have been a mistake on our staffs end" the doc said trying to do damage control

"well I am glad you guys were wrong yesterday" Arjun said.

The doc showed him the report for positive pregnancy and it was moment that everyone enjoyed, everyone except maya...

She watched the entire episode silently unfold in front of her.

" to unmask you have to wear one too" she thought to herself as everyone rejoiced .

P.S: Thank you all for loving the Short Story so far. Yes I used to write about AR,and someone this story is ingriguing me and compelling me to form a short story, dont know how long it may last but will try to post as much as my creativity flows. Happy reading
