[This is a conclusion I have come to based on the last few episodes of the show. This is my opinion and I am entitled to my personal thoughts. If you happen to disagree, feel free to commence a friendly discussion/argument/debate but do not bash and please, for the love of God, be civil.]

This week of Beyhadh has led me to re-think things and look at a bigger picture.
Since
hate is a very harsh word, I'll stick to saying that I
strongly dislike Vandana. To all those who claimed she was right from the very beginning, I must say your ways and thoughts have only struck me now. Since I never liked Vandana in the first place, I hated everything she did too, as the human mind has a habit of making us automatically dislike a person's actions if we dislike them. Unfortunately, no matter how much I hate saying this,
Vandana was partially right. It was disgraceful of her to call Maya crazy, insult her, and put up (several) scenes at (several) different occasions, but at the end of the day, she was just a person who let her motherly nature take over her and could not see her child enter the lion's mouth without trying to stop him.
I hate the ways Vandana chose to handle the situations and I hate how she insults Maya every single day, and I also despise the fact she doesn't have the decency to give Maya another chance. From the very beginning, Vandana saw Maya as a sociopath and she's just afraid that she may hurt Arjun for her own interests, because she is unable to accept the fact that Maya's priority is her son. As Vandana has said before, she believes Arjun is not her love, just the essence of love for Maya. [I'm in no way saying that this is the only reason Vandana hates Maya, there could most certainly be more to it, but this is what I have been able to conclude so far.]
But Maya is playing a game. There is a Mayajaal here. And Arjun couldn't get anymore tangled in it.
I'm not saying Maya doesn't love Arjun, I think she has proved her Beyhadh love many times. But she does have a very sharp mind and a different definiton of love. She is clever. In the last episode, Maya herself said she was there where no one's imagination could ever reach. And that's when it struck me. I needed to pause the episode and process things and I came to a conclusion. Maya's sudden niceness wasn't evil or purposeful, it wasn't only to create an even better impression on Arjun and Ayaan, but that was certainly a plus point. And Maya tried, she truly tried to attain Vandana's acceptance, but the monster-in-law wasn't willing to give her a chance, so Maya would have thought: "Well, your loss." Because Maya never loses. Days of being the ideal daughter-in-law came in handy, and when Vandana began testing Arjun's patience, Maya stood there, internally grinning, the mask still on. I believe Maya's efforts were initially genuine, but there would have come a point when she probably just stopped trying out of niceness and did it in hopes of her efforts being seen and appreciated, which they did as not only Arjun, but even Saanjh and Ayaan have defended Maya.
This entire 'leaving the house' thing, I'm sure Maya could foresee this for a while now. She knew Vandana would not refrain from degrading Maya and I'm sure Maya knew that one day Arjun would stand up for her against his mother, it was Maya who re-united them after all. Maya had this in mind for a while. And by seeming ideal, she just made it much quicker. When Vandana questioned Maya on her purpose being fulfilled, I'm sure Maya would have mentally blurted out a sassy answer, but she was still playing ideal.
If you look at the smaller current picture, you will see Vandana hating on Maya and Arjun just wanting to give his wife her essential rights.
If you dare look at the bigger picture (which is quite a task), you will not only see Vandana hating on Maya, but you will also see the intentions behind Maya pretending to be all 'ideal', and Arjun being a puppet manipulated by Maya.
Maya never wanted to live at the Sharma house, maybe for a (very) brief period of time she thought this house could give her her family, but from the very beginning there have been little symbolic dialogues and actions of Maya wanting Arjun to live at her house eventually in the longer run. It would be too demanding if she just asked Arjun to leave his house and live at her quintessential sea-facing apartment, so she simply got a way Arjun himself would willingly take them to her house. This is a dialogue I had pointed out long back, if you remember the time Maya had tried to send Arjun a truckful of gifts and he came to return them. After he left, Maya told one of the servants to send all the things to her room. Jhanvi had asked Maya why she wanted to keep all those thing to which Maya answered "Arjun ko bhi ek na ek din yahi aana hai". Eversince that episode I knew Maya and Arjun would end up at the Mehrotra house.
I don't think Maya would be capable of hurting Arjun, anyone but Arjun. But Vandana just sees Maya as a threat. And Vandana is right in her thoughts (not actions, I do not agree with any of her actions whatsoever). I would love it if Vandana too, could play pretend just like Maya, but the mother is too innocent for that kind of cat and mouse games and she seems to be terrified of Maya too đ
