CHAPTER-3
Without a display of any avid emotion or fury, Dev pulled down Golu from the bike in front of Ishwari Niwas... The kid held his trophy in hand and was ecstatic... Dev smacked a deep kiss on Golu's cheek, which he immediately rubbed with ecstasy... "Golu, go inside the house with guard uncle... Bigcha will come home later..." Dev told his nephew...
"Aap kahin jaa rahe ho Bigcha?" Golu inquired...
"Yes, Beta. Bigcha has some work. Will be home as soon as the work is done..." Dev's smiling face wasn't giving away the turmoil his heart felt... On the kid entering the house happily, he kick-started his bike, and off he went...
Dev's hands were giving away riding the superbike... His emotions were having an adverse effect on him... His hands were trembling... Parking his bike in the nearby park, he went in for a long brisk walk... Shedding his emotions down... He huffed out a loud breath, and another two times before he had a semblance over his emotion... This was a first for himself. Thinking before reacting is something the impulsive Dev never understood nor practiced... But for the first time, the Dev Dixit was trying to sort himself out before doing anything before his daughter...
"Daughter? My daughter? Sonakshi's and my daughter? Suhana... That's what her name is, isn't it..."? He smiled a huge stretch of his lips with the mere thought of such a pretty, independent, headstrong little girl... His Pari... "That's why I felt so pulled towards her... How not to being pulled to your own child? Of course, it was bound to happen, he can never see tears in his baby's eyes... Eyes... Weren't they just like me?" he smiled gullibly. "Of course, they are those identical light brown almond shaped eyes... It never caught my attention..." he huffed and laughed at himself. "Not just me, she looks really like a Tiny-Sonakshi. The same petite figure, the same maturity, the same self-independence and the same headstrong attitude... She really is one Sonakshi..." Dev couldn't help laugh to himself... His eyes clouded with tears immediately as he sat on the bench with a thud- "Whatever that exterior is, she is me from inside... The same scared, emotionally vulnerable, the pleasing-everyone-attitude, the love for mother, and the intention of hiding the deepest desires in the heart... Just like me..." In short, the perfect blend of his and Sonakshi's personality... How much this little baby of his was in pain to meet her Papa, to enjoy the "luxury" of having both her parents, which should have been her birth right... Dev rubbed a tired hand over his face... He didn't understand, how to react? He was on the ninth cloud knowing he has his own little child, that he loves so much even when he didn't know it's his little baby... And he was infuriated as well, on Sonakshi... Whatever may be the reason, he should have been informed about his child... "Ye tumne achha nahi kiya Sonakshi... Mujhe meri beti se door rakhke achha nahi kiya..." Dev shook his head in fury, and then thought about again- "I will deal with this fury later, I right now need to tend to my waiting daughter whom I have promised to visit." Dev walked back to the parking, kicked his bike to a start and resumed his ride towards his daughter. His mind couldn't help registering the fact that he alone knew how a broken childhood hurts, how difficult it is to grow up at a tender age of his or even worse of his daughter... He has worked so hard to give a better life to his family so that his younger sisters don't get to see those days of broken childhood he had seen, and he would be doomed if his daughter out of all the people will have one such life... He won't let that happen ever... He will do anything that would make his daughter happy and a right innocent childhood that she deserves.

Sonakshi was a bundle of nerves walking about the hall... She could hear a chirp in her daughter's voice, who was busy telling her Dadu and Dida about her Buddy and squeezing on to her Saurabh Maamu's arm to buy his attention, and she animatedly told about her buddy...
"Pata hai Asha, main na shuttlecock hit karte waqt na gir gayi thi..." Soha pulled her frock up to show her now almost healing knee... "Main toh bilkul nahi royi thi... Main bohot strong hoon na... Buddy ne jaldi se medicine laga di meri chot par... Par cry mujhe karna chahiye tha, par aisa lag raha tha jaise Buddy rone wale hain... Main aur Golu itna hanse na unn par..." Soha giggled...
"Main na sirf ek baar cry ki thi, jab mujhe badminton khelna hi nahi aa raha tha... Pata hai Golu ke Bigcha ne mujhe kitni practice karaayi... Main aaj ye trophy sirf unhi ki wajah se jeeti hoon..." Soha ran over to the shelf where the trophy was put... On and on Soha went telling about her "Buddy Stories" and the rest of the house, including Sonakshi listened.
Sonakshi bunched her skirt in her fist as soon as she heard the call bell... Her breath was in her throat, and she dreaded answering the door, for she knew Dev would be there... She had seen raw fury in his eyes knowing about Suhana at the function... And he must already be boiling with temper... "What if he snatches Soha in his anger? Soha is already so fond of him..." Sonakshi thought she will have a nervous breakdown.
To her utter shock his baby was on springs, and she stood over a chair she pulled, and unbolted the door for her Buddy... She was immediately pulled up in his arms as he entered... One hand held her to his chest while the other hand put the chair back to its place...
He looked around the house, well it has certainly changed from the last time he had come here to apologise to his Father-in-law then for the slip of his hand... But was with all the insult been thrown out of this very place amidst the neighbours having a good look at the drama taking place...
Dev shrugged himself out of the bad memories as his daughter was squirming to be put down on her feet... He had successfully masked his previous hurt and looked down at his daughter. No matter what the hurt is, he couldn't help smiling at his little baby girl... Dev was on his knees before her, and with tears rolling down his cheeks, he couldn't help hug Soha... A little Soha, though a bit confused, hugged back her buddy... "He was crying, maybe that's why he needs a hug, like mumma gives me when I cry sometimes..." Soha thought... They kept hugging until Buddy wanted...
Finally when he parted, he wiped his tears and have a small chuckle to his pari, and then said- "School mein aapne apni Mumma aur Buddy ka introduction karaaya tha na, Pari? Ab aapki Mumma mera introduction karwaayengi aapse..." Dev looked back at Sonakshi... If Sonakshi was terrified earlier guessing his reaction, she was dumbfounded right now... She had seen Dev's eyes spewing fury in the school and had been preparing herself for him yelling and shouting, pointing out her mistakes and pushing-pulling her and Suhana... She knew him enough to know that he wasn't this calm right now either, as much as he is projecting before Soha... There's an underlying fury like a molten lava, ready to burst the crust and burn everything...
Dev gave a rueful smile at Sonakshi... He knew well what Sonakshi was thinking... She knows him enough and understands that he isn't any calm... But to hurt or scare Suhana seeing him getting angry on her mother was the last thing he ever wanted to do... And he can hold to his calm to any new notches for his child...
Suhana looked confused as she mumbled- "But, how will Mumma introduce us? We already know each other na?" she looked up to see her buddy and Mumma staring at each other... "Mumma, do you know buddy before I told you?" she asked her mother...
Sonakshi broke the eye contact with Dev and kneeled down before her daughter, next to Dev, and caressing her baby's arms she softly told- "Yes, Soha... I know your buddy already... Do you know his name?" Sonakshi asked... On Soha's negative shake of head she shared the information- "Suhana, he is Dev Dixit... Your Papa..." There wasn't any wary or dread in her voice and she imparted the information as softly as she could...
Soha had kept her little hands on her mouth... She was pleasantly shocked knowing it... Shock replaced with surprise and finally there filled excessive happiness all over her face, eyes and heart... "Papa? Mere papa, Mumma?" Soha couldn't help but hang her little arms around her kneeling father's neck, as if this was the ultimate of her ecstasy... She too has a father... She loves him, and he loves her too... Now she can tell everyone that she is not odd either... She has a father too... She has all the happiness in the world like any other person...
Soha didn't know that her thoughts were aloud, her parents could hear them, and her father had pulled his Pari so close in his arms that his life depended upon the little life before him... His little piece of unconditional, true love... Sonakshi couldn't help her kohl get smudged wiping the tears rolling out of her eyes... She had dreamt all this so many times... Their daughter doing good in her life, and the ultimate bliss of her life would be her daughter rushing into Dev's arms sharing her achievement... This is one such day...
"Papa?" Soha asked still clinging to her father's neck.
"Ji, beta... Boliye..." Dev as if had attained a flow to a normal conversation with his new found daughter, like he had been doing this for the last 6 years...
"Will you live with us now? Like everybody's fathers live with their children?" she asked innocently...
Dev picked Soha up and sat down on the couch taking Soha in his lap- "Beta, Papa would love to live with his baby girl. But right now, Mumma and Papa have some issues between them... I can't promise to resolve them immediately... But I promise to keep you very happy, whatever I can do as your father, I will do that beta... And I will try that all the issues between your Mumma and me, do not come in between you and your happiness, because we both love you beta... Very much! Too much to hurt you over some issues... You have been my and your Mumma's dream, well before we married... And we will never try to shatter our little dream, our little girl Suhana..." Dev smiled at his daughter...
"Little girl nahi, Papa... Big Girl..." Suhana corrected...
"Arre mera bachha, you will always be my little baby girl... Nobody can change that..." Dev had cuddled Soha in his arms, faking to crush her in his embrace... And Soha giggled out her happiness...
Sonakshi was surprised beyond her wits to see dev addressing Suhana's issue so directly and without any quick fix... It was a moment of realization for her that not only Dev's clothes have changed, a lot has changed over these years. He has learnt a sense of patience, he has learnt to control his anger, he has learnt to address issues the way they should be...
Suhana was ecstatic about her father and wanted to show Dev everything she possessed... Her toys, her books, her pictures, all of her memories to up to date her father about her, like he knew her all along... She ran to her room to get all the things...
Dev took this opportunity to have a word with Sonakshi and let her know what she has done. He went towards her, controlling his temper and volume told- "I loved maa and you more than I ever loved anything or anyone... Even more than myself Sonakshi... But my maa snatched my only happiness that I wanted for myself, you... She could never accept you for her own happiness... And you? You also snatched my only dream which I had for myself because you wanted to punish me? You have punished me in worst possible way, Sonakshi. Trust me. I hate you both for this and I hate myself more because I just can't stop loving you both..." he wiped his hot fat tears yet again and left for Suhana's room leaving behind a thoughtful Sonakshi.
