Anika sat on the cold wooden bench, enjoying the sharp cold breeze that spoke of the storm that was to come. She didn't mind, infact she would gladly welcome the storm when it did arrive, because atleast she'd have company to match the storm going inside her. She was sitting in the park near her house, well ex house because Shivaay had sold' it a month ago. She hardly came to this park anymore, but seeing as she needed to be away from Shivaay for atleast a few hours, she had snuck out of the mansion.

"Anika Shivaay Singh Oberoi, my Wife"

She flinched at the memory of his words to the guests and media at their wedding reception, her second one, the one with her getting all respect and rights. She had seen his eyes turn hard and cold with cutting anger when the media had questioned him about his wife's background, family and other things regarding her. The ice-cold shards in her stomach were a reminder of how she had felt so broken, so ashamed in that moment.

Her hands clenched on the edge of the bench. Today she had realised that while she may have the rights as the bahu of the Oberoi's, she didn't have the rights to his heart, his love. You don't have the rights to Him. He wasn't, isn't and won't ever be mine. She thought as a sob escaped her. And as if the sky had heard her thoughts or heard her heart break even more, it opened up and cried with her. And she finally let herself be weak, even if it was for a moment, thankful for the rain.

Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse
Main Dekhoon Tujhe Aankhein Bharke
Tu Lage Mujhe Pehli Baarish Ki Dua

Shivaay had quickly become a vital part of her life, she loved him but she knew they would never be able to have a proper future. She had fallen in love with him knowing exactly who he was and what his thoughts were, so she had no one but her irrational heart to blame for the dilemma she was in. She wanted to give him everything, no limits, she wanted to be his, wanted to give him all that he asked for, but...but she wasn't what he wanted, she didn't have the qualities or status he wanted in a life partner.

But still, he was etched so deep into her heart and soul that she needed to be with him, near him, just see him. For the first time in her life, she had started to depend on someone other than Sahil, Shivaay had become the person she could actually consider her own in some sort of twisted way. When he had saved her life multiple times, she had started to believe that maybe, just maybe he was changing, that she mattered to him, as he mattered to her. But she had forgotten that he was Shivaay Singh Oberoi, she was just a responsibility to him. I want to be more than that...but the reality of my life is that I can never be more.

Tere Pehlu Mein Reh Loon
Main Khudko Paagal Keh Loon
Tu Gham De Ya Khushiyaan, Seh Loon Saathiya

"Damn it, Anika" She let go of the bench and wiped her eyes, frustrated at herself, at her inability to let go of something that was tearing her apart piece by painful piece. All this time, she had allowed her heart to overrule her rational mind, she knew she had messed up badly by doing that. Not a good move Anika, especially when you knew your heart is pushing you towards something your mind knows is bad for you. And now they were married, she should be happy that she wasn't just his wife among the walls of Oberoi Mansion anymore, but the stark truth was that she wasn't, because this marriage was once again for convenience. To show the world that he hadn't been married to an already married Tia Kapoor. So that his business wouldn't suffer a loss by the new scandal that would come to light.

And yeah sure they had gotten closer, their trust and understanding grew immensely during their exposure plan, but he would never accept her as anything more than a responsibility. You're going to have to let go before you end up nothing but an empty shell of the woman you once were...But how do I look at the man ilove and tell myself that it's time to let go??...A broken heart can be healed Anika, so it's better to leave with it intact rather than walking away with nothing but darkness. Sighing as her mind gave her logical advice again, she just raised her face to the rain, hoping it would wash her tear stains away. But even in the face of the harsh cutting truth, the brutal compulsion inside her heart refused to be distinguished, to understand that it would just end in a whole lot of pain.

Koi Nahi... Tere Siwa Mera Yahaan
Manzilein... Hain Meri To Sab Yahaan
Mita De Sabhi Aaja Faasle
Main Chahoon Mujhe Mujhse Baant Le
Zara Sa Mujh Mein Tu Jhaank Le, Main Hoon Kya

************************************
"How did you find me?" she asked him, the anger rolling of him in thunderous waves giving his presence away even before he came into her view. "Never mind" shaking her head, she replied as an afterthought of figuring it was all Khanna's doing. If I didn't like that big teddy bear of a man, I'd be giving him a piece of my mind regarding privacy.

Silence. Deadly silence. His rage cutting through the cold and rain, Anika felt it lick her skin, but she was far from feeling intimidated.

And in the next second he was towering over her, his anger ferocious and his eyes glowing with blue-green flames "You. Left. Me. Again". Shivaay stood trying to keep himself from hauling her to her feet and shaking her up. Ofcoz I would find her. She's mine. Mine. Maddening woman! She doesn't have any right to leave me. Maybe if I...No! You will hurt her. Don't.

It was difficult for Anika to maintain her cool but she said in a calm tone "Don't worry, I wasn't running away, I wouldn't do anything to cause another stir for your family. And no, I'm not being melodramatic or childish. I just needed some time to myself. You can go back". Even in anger this man is beautiful. His eyes are liquid fire...You would know Anika, you've already been burnt. He hadn't moved an inch "You're getting wet. I will return in a while, Shivaay" softly this time, pleading for some space.

Again silence. She had expected him to rave and rant, maybe pull her into his move and twist her arm behind her back. But he did nothing, which shocked the both of them.

Reigning in his anger, Shivaay sat down next to her, making sure he gave her space but was still close enough to feel her body heat. He had heard her silent plea and it had been enough to sooth the fire burning in him from the moment he hadn't been able to find her...for now atleast he would reign in the fury. Calm down. Let the rain sooth you...She's your balm Shivaay. His heart whispered the last bit to him

***********************************
Raising his hand he dismissed the umbrella that Khanna had rushed forward with, understanding that Anika was probably sitting in the rain for a reason, and as much as he wanted to bundle her up into the car and take her home to dress into something dry and warm, he couldn't. He owed her this time to herself. She isn't exactly alone now, you're with her!..Yeah well she has to deal with me in her space. He glanced at her and saw that her head was resting back, eyes closed. Beautiful. But even then, he worried about her catching a cold. Fisting his hands, he slid them into his pockets.

Just having her close calmed his raging soul. He had gone frantic with worry when he couldn't find her anywhere at home and then unbidden rage followed after finding out that she hasn't informed anyone else as well. Looking at her subtly, he felt his heart sigh in contentment, a feeling that wasn't new to him, but one he didn't like giving a name to. Did she really think I would let her go? That I'd stand down and accept the fact that she wanted out? How he wished to throw something, anything, but no, he wouldn't disturb her moment.

Things had been going well, their plans had been a success, the Kapoor's were exposed and finally he got a second chance to make things right. He married Anika with full consent from her and his family. The rightful Mrs Shivaay Singh Oberoi had been introduced during his and Anika's wedding reception, and he couldn't have felt happier in that moment. But then he had seen the way her expression changed during the reception when she heard the questions of the reporter and it angered him that these people would hurt her, unintentional as it was, it still caused fury to beat in every pulse of his blood. He knew his anger on hearing those questions had shown, because he saw the faltering expressions of the reporters, had seen his family look at him shocked. But it didn't matter, because no one, absolutely no one was allowed to cause his wife any discomfort. It was a raw craving that he take care of her, ensure she felt only happiness. He didn't understand it.

Pehle Kabhi... Na Tune Mujhe Gham Diya
Phir Mujhe... Kyun Tanha Kar Diya
Guzaare The Jo Lamhe Pyaar Ke
Hamesha Tujhe Apna Maan Ke
To Phir Tune Badli Kyun Ada, Yeh Kyun Kiya

He had come to realise that Anika was a women who understood him in ways he couldn't understand himself. She had forced him to face the cold hard truth of the beliefs that he had grown to live by over the years. Naam, khoon, khaandan...He was beyond that now...She was beyond that. He didn't need his beliefs, he needed her. But knowing he valued her more than his beliefs, didn't make things easy, infact things got more difficult. He was in a constant battle with himself, for her. Vulnerability wasn't a sensation he enjoyed, and when it came to Anika, he felt all sorts of vulnerable.

Sitting on this bench, Shivaay Singh Oberoi getting drench in the rain was proof to that. He stayed in the rain with her because he feared that she wouldn't come home, she would disappear again. That was not something he would be able to handle. Though he still may not have given a name to their relationship but he knew that she was in his every breath, his every heart beat. He hadn't stood a chance against her since the day she stepped into his life. She had the power to wound him so deep, that he might never recover. Maybe that was why in spite of knowing his beliefs had nothing on her, he had tried to keep her at arm's length even as he demanded everything he did from her. He had taken and wanted rights that he couldn't give back to her. He had been a coward. What a fool I've been. But no more. I will keep her happy now.

Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse
Main Dekhoon Tujhe Aankhein Bharke
Tu Lage Mujhe Pehli Baarish Ki Dua

For the first time in his life he had someone who was his, someone with whom he could be Shivaay with in a way he couldn't with any of his family members. He sent another glance at her, saw that she was still enjoying the rain but he also noticed she was alittle tensed and as he stared at her, he saw her tense up even more. Interesting, but not something I should explore right now. We need to talk first. Yes, we have a lot to talk about. Baby steps Shivaay. You both have a long time ahead. And you need to heal her heart before anything else.

His mind gave him good advice, they had time. If only she knew how much control she has over me...Then tell her. He wished he could, but he realised that a lot had happened, and at the moment she wasn't his Anika, he had to wait for her to resurface. God forbid she doesn't take long, else I will have to force her out. Thankful that his heart and mind were finally agreeing on the same thing, he started thinking about the possibilities of their future together. Future, our future. I like the sound of that...i hope she will too. He now understood why she enjoyed the rain...It was as if the rain washed away all the cloudy thoughts and made things more clearer, more pure Made things easier to understand, to come to terms with. He laughed internally at the irony...She was his storm, yet she was his rain too.

Tere Pehlu Mein Reh Loon
Main Khudko Paagal Keh Loon
Tu Gham De Ya Khushiyaan, Seh Loon Saathiya

************************************
He sat staring at her, his heart feeling content for the first time in days, drinking in her beauty. The rain had turned to a light drizzle, the night turning abit warmer. He saw her shiver, and ofcoz she would, she had been sitting in the rain for God knows how long. He scooted closer to her, wrapping his arms around her and internally sighed when she didn't push him off.

"Go home, Shivaay" She told him, but she really didn't want him to, she loved this feeling of being in his hold. She felt safe, loved. She felt like she was his. She allowed herself to be held because she knew would be rushing her into the car in a few more seconds. Reality s*cked.

Her eyes met his as he tightened his hold on her and he saw wetness in it, he could tell it wasn't from the rain, he knew that she had been crying, just as his heart was doing, no, as his heart had been doing since the moment she walked away from him. From them. Listening to his heart, he pulled her closer invading her space and said softly "I am home, Anika"

What an absolutely beautiful story. written so well, with such moving, understated emotional pathos! I read it twice, it was so layered and lovely and poignant. Just a small moment of them on a bench, in the rain, and yet so important and so meaningful to THEM, as a couple in love. Please write more, everything you write is gold and I hope you have more stories in you!
