I apologize in advance for the sloppy style but I thought I would write a small OS on the 'Lover Boy' named Rohit 😆 Enjoy!!
I poured myself some 'kaali coffee' .. splutter ... damn! I mean Expresso ... and strolled into the living room deep in thought, replaying the entire discussion from last evening in my head.
What had I said that was so wrong??!
Honestly this woman was going to be the death of me one day. How was what I had said an insult for heaven's sake? Was it not my duty and responsibility to provide for her and Sahil? After all Sahil was my little brother too and, you had to admit, was growing to be more like me than Annika. The boy had style and a taste for the finer things in life which was always an advantage as an Oberoi.
The poor guy had come home excited last evening about a School trip to London that was planned during the last week of school. All his friends were going and he so wanted to go too. He was excited to see the Big Ben and the London Eye that O Bhaiya had told him about.
I absentmindedly picked the Business Times and scanned it not really seeing anything that I was looking it. I was upset at HER for making such a big fuss about such a silly thing. Khanna probably made more on his salary with us, then what it would cost me to send Sahil on his trip to London.
So he wanted to go on the school trip to London with his classmates and what was wrong with that? I mean, too bad that the ones that could not go did not have Shivvay Singh Oberoi as their Jiju'. That was not Sahil's fault and why in the world should the little man suffer because of them?
But nooo... Annika Singh Oberoi had to be a wet blanket and rain on the little mans parade with her "It is a waste of money", "you can go when you can actually pay for it yourself", "I cannot afford it" "money does not grow on trees that we just reach out and pluck from" ...
"Ahem!!", I interjected, "as a matter of fact it does where the Oberoi's are concerned...", only to be shot a look that sent poison darts at me which silenced me on that matter.
But I was not lying when I said that!! I was taking about our many Tea and Coffee Estates that were under the Oberoi Group!!
With a voice laced with heavy sarcasm SHE continued, without pausing for a break,"Jiju would send you to the moon if they were selling tickets for a trip there"...
"As a matter of fact they are!! That is not a bad idea 'lil bro!!", I exclaimed, looking excitedly at him, thrilled at how educational it would be for him and how advantageous for his academic future.
"Have you completely lost it Shivvay??!!", I heard her shout as she turned to face me, cheeks were flushed and eyes were wild with anger, Sahil completely forgotten.
"Uh!Oh!", I thought. "That was a very bad move Shivvay because somehow the canon is facing you now and it is loaded and ready to fire. Think fast man or you are going to be blown into smithereens!!!"
That is when it hit me and I thought, "Ah! This is perfect. I could make this work to my advantage and give Sahil his trip." I mentally did my ninja flick and patted myself on my back for being so smart.
"Alright alright, how about we make a deal", I spread my hands and held them up stop her progress towards me.
"What kind of deal??", she asked with a suspicious look.
"I pay for his trip and you pay me back whenever you start working. In fact why don't you come to the office tomorrow and we can work out an arrangement?!", I replied trying to keep the excitement out of my voice.
I saw her hesitating, as if weighing what I said, and decided to stop the flow of rational thought that was going on in her head with the famous words, "Unless you think you are not up going back to work again. In that case I will willingly make the needed financial decision for Sahil's educational trip. I really don't mind, you know? You don't want the guy embarrassed in front of his friends who are going on the trip, do you??"
Hook, Line and Sinker. I knew she would fall for the bait about him being at a disadvantage to the others. Her pride in Sahil was so predictable.
"No!!", she replied vehemently, "I will pay back the entire expense. No need for you to do it."
"Ok then, we have a deal", I confirmed as I walked out, winking at Sahil and clapping him on his back as he sat grinning at me.
I smirked with satisfaction at how cleverly I had played her last evening, as I sipped my perfectly brewed Expresso and saw, over the rim of my coffee cup, one of the security walk a very handsome young man into the study adjoining our room. As my eyes widened with surprise at the scene I was taking in, a voice in my head went, "What in the Devil's name??!!"
With one swift move I placed the cup down on the coffee table with a hard thump, which ended up spilling the coffee all over the table, as I strode angrily towards the study while my mom went "O My Mata Shivvay??!! Where is the fire??!!"
As I almost reached the study I found a very amused looking Annika Singh Oberoi walking out with the hunk, wearing the sweetest smile she could, while she proceeded to introduce him to me, "Oh! BTW Rohit this is my husband Mr. Shivvay Singh Oberoi and Shivvay this is Rohit Singh Thakkur my new business partner and Pinky Ma's friends son."
"Your what!!??", I asked incredulously as I narrowed my eyes at the minx.
"Business Partner honey... you know the ones that you partner with in a business and Mrs. Thakkur's son??", she replied feigning innocence at my actual question and speaking slowly like you would with a special needs child.
Then she turned to Rohit and smiled radiantly, "Rohit was so impressed with the way I arranged our wedding that he proposed to invest financially in the 'Wedding Planning' business if I invested my expert' Know-how'. Pinky Ma has already given her consent so not to worry in that quarter."
With that she proceeded to walk Rohit to sit beside mum and was offering the man tea and snacks.
That was last evening when I thought I had bested Mrs. Shivvay Singh Oberoi and this is today, where I have handsome young Rohit sitting in MY living room, speaking with MY wife about a business partnership proposition. Yesterday I thought I would have her work with a Shivvay 8 hours a day - now I have to digest the fact that she works with a Rohit for 8+ hours a day and there ain't a darn thing I can do about it. After all it was I who made the terms and conditions of the deal.
I saw my wife look towards me with a slight smile that said, "Checkmate once more Mr. Oberoi".
