In a way, you're right. People expect Aamir to come up with wholesome movies, whereas Salman is expected to deliver family entertainers. It works in their favor. They know what to expect. They've made a niche for themselves. Both Aamir and Salman have delivered huge BBs, whether in social dramas, sport-based movies, action, comedy, or masala.

SRK doesn't have a niche for himself anymore. SRK and romance never failed. But since Rab Ne, his only BB movie is a masala movie. Problem with SRK is that he's using a lot of gimmicks instead of playing it straight. BB, PK, 3I, Dangal, Sultan, etc. are all simply dramas. They are story-driven, performance driven over the gimmicks that filmmakers use to make these commercial pot-boilers.
