Outsiders in spite of being full of talent do not get the chance after a few flops.

Kangana is an outsider and she debuted somewhere in 2006 but when did she get the fame? 2011 a little and then in 2014. This is what happens to outsiders.

Abhishek is also a star kid. He is good actor too. Had a good physique to begin with. But he did not have the drive to work hard. He wanted to do mainstream Bollywood movies, but never tried to polish his skills for what is required for them, like learning dancing or fighting or at least maintaining physique. If not, he should have been gutsy and chosen only art movies like Paa. But he wanted mainstream roles as it will fetch more money. He ended up with films like HNY. Hritik debuted around the same time. But he worked hard on his disabilities and raised.

Harsh will not because he cannot act (judging by trailer have not watched Mirziya). Among the star kids one who is better acting wise is Ranbir and so he is made out to be the next big thing.
Abhi was expected to become the next BigB and that is why in spite of him doing good people's expectations never got fulfilled. He too did bad bad choices in between and see where he is, no movies in spite of having the charm and talent.

Can we stop making this about RK-RS or even about RK. The question was about survival and whether talent trumps in the industry. Akshay with his 13 flops could survive and he is rank outsider. AB with his 12 flops gave Zanzeer and became legend.

RK will survive even with flops because he is a genuinely good actor and directors want to work with him. He has better equation with the people he work than most. That to trade is a very important feature. Most people forget that Bollywood is group business. And as much as they would like their star to make it big on BO, they should also want to be able to work with them. Ranbir scores heavily on this last point. People in industry like to work with him. He is no fuss actor.

Now the question is - Could DP have survived flop debut and would Sonam have made it to bigger league with hit debut.

Sonam does the fashion stuff because she enjoys it. She started it when there was thought to be no scope for high fashion in India anyways. It started paying off because she is genuinely chic & gorgeous, but it a long shot to say it was deliberate design. Maybe because she is very privileged (and honestly a little delusional about that privilege), but it's pretty obvious from the way she handles her career she has no real overarching ambition to be "Number One".
