Has anyone read about or heard of this Shatanan Ravan story before?

I have read as many Ramayan books as I've been able to get my hands on, and have watched plenty of mythological shows but have never ever heard anything of it.

Can anyone please enlighten me - is this (some version of) a known story from (some version of) the Ramayan and/or related mythology, or is it a completely original storyline invented by the writers of this Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman show? ❓

Thanks!

Hi again!

Like I said, I hadn't heard of this story but I did some research (and got some help in the Mythological Masti forum) and found out that the story is from a version of the Ramayan called the Adbhut Ramayan, which is more about Sita, and in which Devi Sita takes on a form of Devi Kali to kill Shahastra Ravan, who lived in a place (maybe an island) called Pushkar (not necessarily modern-day Puskhar in Rajasthan, India!). So it looks like Shri Ram was born to kill Dashanan Ravan (and Kumbhkaran) and Devi Sita to kill Shahastra Ravan, with them both playing important roles leading up to all the killings - nice! ⭐️

So "Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman" has changed the character's name to Shatanan Ravan and has him living in a place called Pushkar Lok in outer space instead, but I'm glad they finally got the story moving towards Sita killing him. I personally feel they dragged this storyline out a bit much in this show, but that is just my opinion, and I understand they did it to give Hanuman a more prominent role in it as he is the show's central character. I know others may like the speed it was shown at, and that is all good as well because we are all entitled to our own opinions.

In any case, I have enjoyed learning something new that I was previously unaware about. 😊

I also found out that this story was shown in the recently-completed Star Plus show "Siya Ke Ram", but I haven't seen that whole show yet (am slowly catching up on episodes online) so wasn't aware of the story from there either.

I guess several of you silent readers were aware of the story beforehand and several probably learnt about it recently, just like me. (In either case, seeing as this thread got so many views, a few more replies would have been great! 😉)

I'm looking forward to seeing what they show after this track ends - hopefully at some point they will also show Hanuman meeting Bhim before the Mahabharat war! I hope they do show this as they have Shri Krishna and Devi Rukmini narrating the past Ramayan story in their "present time", which they have previously clearly mentioned is some time after the Mahabharat war is over, so I hope they don't forget about it and show us that as well!
