Karishma Kapoor: Fashion Icon of the 90'S!

If you were born in the early 90's (or earlier), you will agree that much before the likes of Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, we had Karishma Kapoor ruling the fashion scene in Bollywood. She was not only the number one choice of directors but also, the fashion icon who had girls running to the nearest boutiques and parlours to come out looking like the queen herself! From hot pants to dungarees, from miniskirts to cargo pants, she did it all. Karishma Kapoor and her style through the 90's was a rage.

Fashion repeats itself every few years and we just realised how Karishma's outfits from the nineties fall right in line with the trends today! So we compiled a list of 6 outfits the Raja Hindustani actor wore that are still relevant today!

1. Velvet

Velvet was a much bigger trend in the nineties than it is now. From velvet dresses, to pants to sari blouses, Lolo rocked them all.

2. Metallics

The IT' girls of the nineties were obsessed with metallics as much as we are today! Karishma knew how to work these bold pieces like a professional.

3. Oversized Shirts

Nineties were full of oversized shirts and mom jeans. Look at Karishma's multicoloured shirt that we would kill to own today!

4. Slip dress

You are not a fashion girl today if you do not have a couple of slip dresses sitting in your wardrobe. Needless to say, Karishma felt the same way about them!

5. Coordinates

In the movie Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge Karishma wore a ton of coordinates that we would proudly wear even today.

Also, the mesh detailing on the skirt (right) is everything!

6. Pastels

Karishma Kapoor brought pastel dresses to the fashion scene in a big way. Don't tell us you don't want that sweet lavender dress this summer?

I love 90s fashion --- waist high jeans, oversized sweaters with sleeves rolled up, oversized shirts/flannels, oversized overalls...

There was no fashion icon in the 90s. Everyone was equally embarrassing with their loud makeup and colourful clothes.
In fact if anything, it was a man, namely SRK whose KKHH look, Gap sweaters and Polo shirts defined Fashion to an extent.

Karishma will always be the superior Kapoor sister for me, in every department. She was a delight to watch on-screen and had great chemistry with her co-stars especially Salman and Govinda. She matched them so well in energy and charisma.
