Alishah this is very well written post. Everybody has said so much I don't have much to add.
Vividha is portrayed as a full of life young girl and atharv is just the trigger for her to realise her inner strength and potential.

She learnt from him how to utilise her thoughts. But the strength comes from within.

I'm always in awe at the courage this girl has for she has endured so much in such short span . Hats off to makers for giving such strong unique characters

Loved your post. Just finished watching today's epi and loved the way Vividha took matters into her own hands, dragged Atharv down, and led the pheras. You are so right, the word feminism oft does not lend credibility to the idea of equality. The word feminism most times sounds almost like an insult, why do we need a word to define what essentially is the right to be equal?
At times, women might need a push to exert what is their innate equality and if Atharv was the catalyst that helped Vividha find her hidden strengths, hats off to him, not because he is a man but just because he made her realize.
The other soaps I watch are quite regressive in their portrayal of women - the women, the female leads, are perfect housewives, smart professionals, great daughters in law, wonderful moms, the adhesive that keeps the extended family together. The female lead has no flaws, she is kind to a fault, selfless in her devotion, she is not real, not mortal. So it was a breath of fresh air to watch Vividha let no one dictate her actions.

Hi...Alishah...

My day started with a small chat with you this morning and is probably ending on this post tonight😊

The word ' Feminism ' today does not move alone... it brings with it heaps of inequality issues ... the word weaker sex ... and a lot more we call gender bias.

According to me a lot of issues will just get sorted when people look at people as ' HUMANs' ... not men or women ...Th moment the word gender comes along a lot of issues get sidelined and the difference in gender takes a forefront ... Its then U ( male ) V/s ME ( female )

We live in a society which has already set parameters like Atharv had once said ... As a man you are allowed to do this and these are your responsibilities . As women you are again allowed to do this and these are your responsibilities ...

Unlearning anything is the most difficult task at hand and this is one thing Desi TV refuses to unlearn and so do a generic no of viewers ...A lot of women go thru their struggles on a day to day basis in real life and again sit and watch the same thing on TV in the evenings ... Does it really bring solace or does it reinforce the fact in their minds ... that this is the only life women can have? ... Desi entertainment thrives on this concept of throwing women again and again into the same clutches of societal thinking , keeping them bound and finally making them andeverybodyaround them believe that this is life . SAD

Like i said we have a long way to go before we are all accepted as humans first and then considered that we belong to a particular gender. A life with no right to exercise a choice is a life not lived ... is a life lived dying everyday .

Coming to the show , Vividha has exercised her complete free will and choice in the last few days ... I see nothin wrong in Atharv giving her that thought process to start with ...Ineveryone'sjourney in life , you come accross somepeoplewho becomecatalystsin helping you find yourself and if that done by a friend or a partner how is that wrong in any way ... It looks wrong again just because we associate gender to it ... Not the quality of another human doing it for you ...
And finally no one can change you , one can only help you find yourself if you have lost your soulalong the way . The day we rise above this whole fight for gender equality and look at equal human treatment we would have crossed a few miles in our journey towards Progress...

And like you rightly said this show hassubtlyaddressedissues that one deals with day in and day out wrt men and women and has tried in some small ways has questioned norms set by society😊

Ps : I love Vividhas Kickass attitude by the way ... Makes me so so happy
I love ur thoughts and beautiful choice of words to express ... Subtle , focused and Impactful

Archie. You're very kind- aap mujhe bohut acche lagte ho! 🤗

I couldn't agree with your take on all of us being seen as human beings more, because as you so rightly put, that's all we really are. A society formed in that way sounds perfect. It is however unfortunate that even in a world defined by gender, we struggle to treat each other as equals. A world where we are all seen as just human beings is even further away. That really would be true progress!

I really enjoyed reading your ideas so thank you!

Thank you love, you're too kind!

You summed it whilst describing Atharv as the trigger. He is not the reason for her strength and didn't make it, he just helped her find it. She's a brave, strong, kind and loving human being. As real as they get for a character.

Thanks dear!

Yes it is quite unfortunate, as you so rightly noted, that the issue with the word feminism has meant that it's meaning has sort of got lost somewhere. It is rather sad that people choose to focus on trivial things like words rather than the sentiment behind it.

The other point you mention is also very important. Female leads often end the show with the same character traits as when they began. They are already 'perfectly' formed as if self development does not need to happen to somebody who possesses no flaws. But there are no such people! It is very encouraging and important for everybody to see that growth is healthy and significant. That's why I love Vividha!
