Is looking good really all that important for male actors?

Legendary actors who made names and even ruled Bollywood, even after failing good looks test and yet making it to top thanks to their huge talent.

1> AB- Hollow legs, lanky and lambu were some of the nicest words used to describe man from Allahabad who had stars in his eyes and fire in his belly. The legendary "Angry young man" won the box office simply because he could act.

2>Ashok Kumar- If there is one career that needs to be looked into carefully, it is of this man. After all he was the first man to give ATBB even before the word came into existence. He not only proved himself to be a great actor but also was the smartest one. Try finding single movie where he looks like a uncle romancing his niece unless the script calls for it.

3> Dilip Kumar - The man with craggy face and whispering voice was not considered a superstar material. Raj had the hot pairing with Nargis. Dev had the chocolate boy image- the eternal heart-throb. And yet Dilip Kumar is man synonym with BO thanks to his acting prowess.

4> Shahrukh Khan - If Aamir had the face, Salman had the body. And Shahrukh had unruly hairs and dimples. The man was not known for his looks but for the sheer energy that he brought to his roles and his charming smile.

5> Kishore Kumar- The only and only baby faced actor with elastic spine- the man had more skills than anyone in Bollywood living or dead. And yes he was not known for his looks but for his talent.

There are others like Mithun, Mehmood, Ajay Devgan who made it big without really falling into good looks category.

Made a topic like this an year back.

Anyway, looks are not that important for male actors because the male fan base wants a 'hero' they can look up to or relate to and emulate.

In fact, I think the male audience wouldn't want to support someone who is known majorly for their looks.

If female fans achieve the same kind of clout male fans have and society changes, you might get to see more good-looking male actors.

Till then, you can count the no of good-looking male actors in BW on your fingertips.

Khawateen care more about personality and money than looks.. Mard hazraat tend to be stupid enough to be lured by looks alone.. And thus actors don't need looks while actresses do😛😆

Most important is the talent and the star quality, the way they carry themselves the way they speak. A great personality is what's most important to have. Someone who is able to hold your interest the whole aura around him that's what the likes of ABsr, Dilip Kumar and SRK have, they have amazing personalities although they're not great lookers but women generally are not that shallow to solely focus on looks. Having said that good looks along with it is an added incentive it adds to the whole charm and enigma rather than being the cause of it the likes of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Hrithik Roshan are all rounders never hurts to have those around but that's a rare thing 😆

Yeah it interesting on how nothing has changed and not changing when it comes to difference between man and female actor in Bollywood.
