Depression is a serious issue and it isn't easily cured as stated. There are different forms of depression which could arise from situation, anxiety (could be caused by or can cause it) or hormonal imbalance. Many deal with this on and off in long term. It is a mental health issue and a serious one at that because people do take their lives because of it.

That being said mental health issue does not mean crazy. And Maya may also be depressed but her behaviour also points to another issue as well, one where safety of herself and others could become an issue.
