Padmavati row: Detained men freed; Bhansali yet to file police complaint

After the incident, the director decided not to go ahead with the shooting in the state and is returning to Mumbai.

Bollywood stars have come out in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Jaipur: Five persons, who were detained for creating nuisance on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film 'Padmavati', have been released, police said on Saturday. They were allegedly involved in creating nuisance during the shooting of the film in Jaigarh yesterday, SHO Amer Police Station Narendra Kumar said.

They were detained and later released yesterday.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was allegedly assaulted yesterday by activists of a Rajput community group who also forced stoppage of shooting of his movie 'Padmavati' by vandalising the set at Jaigarh Fort, alleging that the director was "distorting facts".

Police said it had detained five persons for disturbing peace even though no complaint was received from Bhansali's side.

The ruckus took place when the film, in which Deepika Padukone is playing Padmavati and Ranveer Singh is playing Alaudin Khilji, was being shot at the historic fort, eyewitnesses said.

The activists of Karni Sena had gathered at the site and demanded stoppage of the shooting. They stormed the set and damaged some chairs and other objects, forcing stoppage of the shooting.

After the incident, the director decided not to go ahead with the shooting in the state and is returning to Mumbai.

"We had warned the filmmakers against presenting wrong facts. When we came to know about the shooting, we gathered there and protested. Besides the Karni Sena activists, there were several other people who had gone there to watch the shooting. Someone from the mob slapped him and pulled his hair," district president of Karni Sena Narayan Singh had claimed.

"There was a protest and the issue was settled after both the parties held talks," DPC North (Jaipur) Anshuman Bhomia had said.

He had said that no FIR was lodged by anyone but five persons have been detained by the police for disturbing peace.

Singh had claimed that Bhansali wants to present a "distorted fact" about Rani Padmavati which will not tolerated by the Rajput community.

Karni Sena chief has now claimed that SLB has told them he would make changes in the Padmavati script..

No one could apprehend the vandalism scare that happened on the sets of Padmavati in Jaipur. Equipment was broken, crew was humiliated and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was slapped and hit in front of everyone.

While the industry has come out pledging support for the cause, Bhansali has stopped his shoot and is on his way back home. Karni Sena, the organisation which staged protests against Bhansali's film claimed that Bhansali is portraying their Queen Padmini of Chittor in a bad light.

According to history, Alauddin Khilji was obsessed with Rani Padmini. Allegedly, there was supposed to be a dream sequence between Rani Padmini's character and Khilji's character where both will be seen making love to each other. When the news of the scene reached the organisation, they decided to stall the shoot.

The Sena chief has now told media that he had a word with Bhansali who has promised to rework on the script and make some alterations, keeping the rich heritage of the people involved.

nope, shobha said they r not compromising the film, the bhansali fc also said this news is rubbish, wat the sena group claimed was happening in the film was false, there was absolutely no scenes between khilji and padmavati in the first place

I am finding it strange too..Why he is not filing any complaint..He is back to bombay..Cast and crew are giving clarifications..for what?? Slap an FIR over the goons..what is he waiting for

I honestly dont think its a publicity stunt but there are two possibilities. 1. He is fearing the backlash and Rajasthan is gonna be a major contributor box office wise. 2. He is gonna milk it to the highest degree possible and come off as a bighearted bollywood biggie...

I think its the 1st one..Bollywood is selling its self respect and spine for money and publicity..No wonder they are pressed by underworld and hooligans and political parties all the time..
