Shivaay and Anika are similar to each other in so many ways, and yet so different in so many other ways. That is what makes them so perfect!
What startled me so much about the recent pool scene between Saahil and Anika was that it was essentially Anika voicing out her thoughts on love and how she did not want another kamzori in her life. But she might as well have said it on both of their behalf, because although he may not say it in so many words, that is exactly Shivaay's problem. He does not need another person to take care of, to worry about.
Shivaay has grown up in a loveless family. He has had to be the bond that held everyone together. He has had to be the one spreading love and trying to create an environment of some normalcy for his siblings. He has never had one couple that he could look up to to draw inspiration from. Maybe his daada daadi, but I am guessing he has not seen too much of them together as a couple. His reality has been the relationship between his parents and his uncle and aunt. He does not believe that there can be "love" in a relationship that is not genetic. He loves his brothers, but he will never be able to love an outsider the same way. That is his reasoning. He had never believed that he loved Tia. She was another business deal for him, and he acknowledged it openly.
Anika has seen a lot of love and normal relationships around her, but it has never been for her. Saahil's dad accepted her as part of the family. When she had no one, he gave her a sense of belonging and a brother to love. She has seen helpful neighbors opening their doors to her when she was in trouble. So she knows there is love and happiness out there, but it has been out of reach for her.
And then they met each other. And their relationship grew even without their knowledge.
Shivaay came very close to loosing Anika. In his own words, that was the only time he feared death. He feared he would loose her. He urged her to come back to him, to talk to him, to be with him. If you think about it, it is essentially the same thing that Anika experienced when she thought Shivaay was dying. Exact same thing.
But, because of their backgrounds and their conditioning, Anika who believes inherently that love exists in this world acknowledged that she was in love with him. And Shivaay, who does not believe in such love did not acknowledge that he was in love with her.
In so many ways, Anika and Shivaay are the same. Yet, in so many ways, they are so different!
