Okay..I know there are multiple topics on this but i had to rant on this so here goes..Those who haven't watched Dangal/ are sick and tired of all the discussion on Dangal can feel free to ignore the topic 😆 Anyways, this is not about Aamir Khan or any actor for that matter..But I really do have issues with certain things in Dangal..Yes, it is a biopic..Yes, this is what probably happened in reality but thats not the point..When you make such a big film with such a vast reach and with such a fantastic message to boot (some of the stuff shown in the film was kickass), I feel it is equally important to point out the wrong actions instead of glorifying them..Ends don't always justify the means..So Mahavir forces his girls into wrestling cos he sees that they have potential, they resent him and hate how they are being forced into it, meet this friend who is forced into child marriage who tells them they are lucky they have a father who wants them to achieve his dreams and not restrict their lives to household chores and marriage and BAM, they have a change of heart, realize their dad's worth and put their heart and soul into wrestling..Don't get me wrong but I found the reasoning entirely flawed..Yes, child marriage is sick and its amazing that Mahavir realized you dont need a boy to achieve your dreams and girls are equally capable but how exactly does that justify parents forcing their kids into achieving their dreams? This is like drawing a bigger line to make one line look smaller in comparison 😆 Lets assume Boman Irani din't have a son in 3 Idiots and forced Kareena to become a doctor cos he always wanted to pursue medicine but could never achieve his dreams..He realizes 'chora de ya chori, dawai dawai hota hai' so i will make my daughter the best doctor and achieve my dreams..Pretty sure Rancho would have given him a lecture on freedom and creativity and parent-child relationship and passion and what not 😆 And again, the argument being placed is that he forced them into it cos he realized they had potential and they could do it..But then again, point is they were not interested initially..I can be great at maths and science and still not want to be an engineer..Yes, they eventually achieved heights and won gold and made their father proud but thats not what happens in 7 out of 10 cases and there is no looking back and altering whatever happened in their life..So point of my rant- the film had a great message..Any profession/career/job shouldn't be restricted by gender but rather by the potential/talent of the person in question..But how does that justify parents forcing their dreams on their kids? A father forcing his daughter to become a doctor/engineer doesn't become a great father just because he din't restrict her capacity to a kitchen and thought her capable enough to pursue a career as a doctor/engineer..There is still the question of choice and passion and whatever else 3 Idiots advocated 😆 Or do you actually believe the ends justify the means and it is okay if you are forced into things so long as you eventually succeed cos your parents saw potential in you and saw something you din't?
P.S. This is probably the main reason why i'd rate CDI as the better film..IMO, it had the better climax and embodied the concept of woman empowerment in the best manner possible without getting preachy or compromising on other aspects..

Finally someone said it . Nothing to add ! Its like be grateful for not getting married at such a young age and settle for the whatever is served cause its still better than child marriage , aise toh every problem of ours will seem petty when compared to worse situations out there .One of the reasons why i'm not interested in watching the movie apart from the fact that i'm done with overdose of biopic cliches. 😆
But I'm afraid this again will end up being aamir vs srk .

Cause somewhere Geeta and Babita started enjoy wrestling and wanted to succeed in it.

What you say only applies if that didn't happen

this is a great point.. i thought the girls were frustrated and annoyed enough with their father to pretty much mock him as a father... they were putting down whatever he was doing which was expected in their frustration with him.. i thought the other girl's purpose of that entire scene was that mahavir as a father wasn't as bad as the girls thought he was...his way of caring about his girls was slightly strange with the manner in which he forced them, but he did care, he saw the potential in them and wanted them to become something in life as opposed to child marriage... of course comparison with the worse case scenario isn't really effective and doesn't really work.. but after that scene once the girls saw the father saw the potential in them they were serious about training and seemed to enjoy it... i do think mahavir went too far in trying to force his girls to wrestle and that scene should have been written better...

Which is why I clarified that this has nothing to do with Aamir or SRK. Rather it just shows Shimit Amin is the better director and handled the subject well 😆

Why are we discussing what Rancho would have done in this situation? Rancho and Mahavir are different characters. Just because they were played by the same actor, we cannot expect them to behave in the same way.

Having said that, most international champions have been trained right from their childhood. Most people.. even the current Indian sensation PV Sindhu, all of them were trained from when they were 6 or 7 years of age. I am pretty sure there were times when they felt why can't they be like their other "normal friends".. why can't they just study, do their homework and play with other kids?

I am not saying this is right or wrong. I am simply saying that this happens a lot. It is happening all around us. Just go to any training academy, you'll spot a lot of kids there. This is the story of a lot of such child 'prodigies'.

Honestly I have no issues with most of the stuff they showed. But after emphasising on how much they hated being tortured by their father and how they started to resent him, I believe it was extremely crucial for them to show a convincing turn around. Something which justified their change of heart. So that scene was poorly written IMO and they just took the easier way out by showing a father much worse just so the girls can see their father ain't so bad 😆

Story of most child prodigy

"I'm seven years old, talking to myself, because I'm scared, and because I'm the only person who listens to me. Under my breath I whisper: Just quit Andre, just give up ... But I can't. Not only would my father chase me around the house with my racket, but something in my gut, some deep unseen muscle, won't let me. I hate tennis, hate it with all my heart, and still I keep playing, keep hitting all morning, and all afternoon, because I have no choice.": Andre Agassi

Stop being so practical, these things happen and have achieved great success so there is nothing wrong with telling the truth.

Another great example is Yuvraj Singh
