Subtle Romance Vs Intimate Scenes in Bollywood films. Whats your pick?

I'm trying to spark a serious debate with this rage of hormone wrecking sex scenes in Indian films these days. Hollywood is a different world all together, which is probably more liberal but still movies like FSOG failed to make money as expected with all the hype created by the book. I'm going take that extreme but be somewhere in between being too liberal and conservative. Earlier in Bollywood too, there have been films like Sidhartha etc which have had bold scenes but unlike today where intimacy is used to sell weak scripts and poor work of the actors. Now why sex sells in Bollywood is a different question, but what would you choose to watch?

Now Ok Jaanu is trying to sell the film with intimate scenes because I'm sure the actors won't match upto the original actors. In my opinion, I feel that not only it would ruin the subtlety most of us adored in the film but also the point of the story. Do you think that Ok Janu will have the same impact as Ok Kanmani?

I prefer the olden day subtle romance. It had its own touch. It left things to the imagination and had an innocence to it. No current Bollywood film can match the innocence of DDlj.

P.s I don't find the song with Shradha and Aditya vulgar. It's more fun than vulgar. Even though it's a complete butchering of the original.

No. Not the song. I hear that the other scenes will have intimacy. There's one where the guy reaches her hostel and they do it there, but it was shown so well in tamil. I'm wondering whether Bollywood will do justice to it?

Hey again! 😛

I liked A2. They had decent enough scenes. Let's see how this one pans out. Haven't seen the original one so cannot comment.

I'm personally a subtle romance fan. Or even loud romance done appropriately. I love some of what people call 'cheesy romance' - e.g. Vivaah/KHNH. Depends on how well it is done.

Intimacy in Bollywood is just to try compete with Hollywood nowadays. That being said, a couple of movies have given me hope recently, so there's a good sign. I think producers/directors have started noticing that inserting a sex scene/sleazy item song does not in anyway guarantee any form of success for the movie.

This song was not creative.
Sure Shraddra had tight shorts and Aditya showed his pecs.

Instead of both doing some intricate dance choreography both were dry humping each other or the air.

Drunk people at clubs move better than them.

Overall it was a stupid video for the song.

I don't know South Indian version of OK Janu, so replying without context of that movie
People of South have different sensibilities than north. So IMHO, if they have changed the intimacy levels , I am fine with it.
Subtle romance is sometimes more uncomfortable to watch with family coz it goes on for long time and everyone knows what's going on. Intimate scene, if shot aesthetically are sometimes better than those stupid 15 minute eye locks shown on TV.

Sorry but isn't it comfortable watching subtle romance with your family instead of some A scenes? Yes, everything has to be shot aesthetically at the end of the day.

Well Siddy, I watch movies with husband alone, so don't mind aesthetically shot scenes.
But get to watch TV shows only in India with family and it gets too uncomfortable, eye locking and all those TV romance that goes on for entire serial!! Gawd .
