I personally like to see intimate scenes more than subtle romance...it's not about hollywood or bollywood but I like to see realism in movies...cheesy dialogues, 10 minutes eyelocks and dancing around trees is definitely not realistic...it's not that I hate subtle romance, it has it's own charm but I'll pick intimate scenes over it...Though I agree that nowadays directors try to sell movies only through sex...and I definitely don't support it...The north audience is more open with sex in movies so I guess, that's why the makers of Ok jaanu put more intimate scenes...nothing wrong in that IMO...every movie isn't made for family and kids ,that's why there is A certificate in censor board

SUBTLE SCENES!
..why is everyone thinking subtlety = 10 min eye locks, running around trees and all? 😆
I love subtle romance..

for examples ---

1) eye contact :D ..not 10 minute slow motion wala... but really eye chemistry that goes on between couples!
2) Showing couples in sync with one another - through body language while not being physically close, or even talking. Couples in love are in sync. The space between them has that something I cannot describe in words ☺️
3) Blurring the video when they get closer to kiss :p
4) Camera showing only legs/floor part - them dropping clothes and getting on bed but not showing bed.
5) Actually, both man/woman entering a room and closing the door - it's all in body language! You'll get the idea where they are heading to if you are old enough.

...^^ obviously, getting the body language right and making that connection to your co-star requires good acting skills.

I never see a point behind showing heavily intimate scenes at alll.. Those old enough understand know what a relationship between man-woman(lovers) is, and to show an affair or encounter above-mentioned techniques can be used.. 🤓

Plus, there are innumerable other gestures of love that can be shown.. The movies do not capture the innocent gestures of human love, and mostly focus on one kind..

I am okay with subtle and intimate romances as long as it's not 'in your face' which is growing rapidly in BW these days. And I don't see them toning it down at all. How I wish they stop it right after they make the point.

Subtle scenes win!
For me, it's all about the chemistry between the actors. If they have good chemistry, even the subtlest of scenes can appear scorching hot. If they have no chemistry, bold scenes just appear vulgar.
Citing the example of Pak dramas like Humsafar. I found the leads to have one of the best chemistries I've ever seen, and that show was probably the most innocent one in terms of romantic scenes. It's all about the eyes!😳😳

@bold.., bcoz that's what is shown in the movies most of the time in the name of subtle romance.
@italics...and what's the point of not showing intimate scenes and show gestures instead of them??? just to get more audience??? isn't that also a wrong way to sell ur movie...if u can show all these gestures , then u can also show a couple of kisses and intimate scenes..they ar not really having sex..if people can understand the gestures that u mentioned then they can also see it. actually happen...but yeah, children will be uncomfortable seeing all this but then they should also not see these gestures bcoz then also they will get a wrong message.

but I agree with ur first and second point, romance is much more than intimate scenes and can be shown in various ways through body language and eyelocks(not those long ones).

See, it's hard to explain the vision or idea I have in mind 😆

By gestures I meant body language, nothing more.

If you are talking about the screen blurring/clothes dropping - then it's only to clearly pass the message to audience that the relationship between the couple or should I say, two adults/people has reached the stage.(consummated?)

I say this remembering the fact that there are pre-marital intimacies and indulgences shown in movies. In case the man-woman are married IMO, no need to show screen-fading/clothes dropping either... but that's just my opinion.

Besides, by screen-blurring I just meant how the scenes are shown, like screen fading on couple's kiss - romantically, but not censor blur.

what did you think by "all these gestures" ?

@Luna --- I am not a fan of showing too much intimacy not because there are children around. I have myself grown up watching love-making scenes with my family since I can remember! I don't believe in love-making scenes having negative affect on kids, because it didn't have any on me. But that is a different matter altogether.

But I say that purely from the POV that it's unnecessary - unnecessary to go beyond a certain level. It doesn't look aesthetic/tasteful to me, in my eyes. Besides, that is the point of subtlety, leaving more to imagination(or rather saving the time to show something better).. to not show in-your-face kinda romance :p

And thankyou.. yes, other gestures of love should be focused upon.

I also like cheesy romance films like HDDCS, Devdas, KHNH, Veer Zaara, MNIS, etc.
