just as you said steph taking comes naturally to him, taking the name of the family-having seen his mother suffer a loveless marriage he could have questioned his father or took a stand for his mother, made his mother realise that there is no sense in living such a life and moved out, asked his father to go to those where his heart lies, so many more he could have done. but a spineless man as he is, stuck to the family, lineage, job etc., obeying the orders of a man who never loved them. since he never earned anything himself, he feels devastated for vividha not loving him instantly. he never knew that there are some things that has to be fought and earned by oneself like self respect and love of a partner.
