Do Mehras know what a secretary is?

So the precap for tomorrow's episode is that Abhi expects Pragya to accompany him for mangal sutra shopping for Tanu, and when she refuses Aaliya chides her for not doing her duty. This raises many questions such as - is Pragya the one marrying Tanu? Or did she suddenly become an elder in Abhi's family to have a say on the mangal sutra? And, why doesn't Tanu yell at Abhi for not caring about her enough since he thinks this is on a level with his secretary picking out his clothes? But most of all: do the Mehras know what a secretary is?!

Abhi and Aaliya certainly seem unaware that "secretary" is a professional occupation which is not supposed to involve taking responsibility for tasks in your employer's personal life. The more proper word for someone who picks your clothes and helps you shop for personal items is a servant. Perhaps they have got the words mixed up?

Daadi, Daasi, and the rest of the Mehras seem to think "secretary" is an acceptable disguise for "bahu." Also incorrect.

I guess Bunty and Babli get a free pass - since they skipped recognition of "secretary" altogether and stuck to "chachi"!

Its called euphemism. Where they dont really want to outright call her a servant, though she apparently is expected to fulfill all such requirements, so they give her a better name-Secretary.

I don't know about the west but in India - I have seen secretary's doing personal work also.
Managing the costume along with dates and meetings, acompmaying boss to various business and private partys also happen.

Is Pragya the secreatry here? I don't think so. He names her secreatry cum friend and she behaves like secreatry cum wife.

Which secreatry orders the boss when to sleep and what to eat? Which boss gifts the secreatry's family with clothes during festivals?

This MS shopping is nothing compared to so many other things in the show.
Maybe it offended some but They showed more illogical stuff.

Good points, Rishu! 😊 Moreover, Pragya knows she is his wife, his well wisher and she is caring for him and doing things for him as per her wish. It was her choice to hang out around Abhi and behave like she is so caring. She wanted to do all this for him. And then he has grown used to it now. She didn't draw those lines and he isn't the one who is about lines either.

@Tia & Rishu The issue I raised isn't about whether Pragya is acting as a secretary - she isn't and it's fair to criticize her for that - but whether the Mehras are treating her like one. They aren't so why are they calling her that! My conclusion is they don't know what a secretary is.

@Nainz - I think you're right. Now I wish I'd never looked at a dictionary to know that servant is the more accurate word. I mean I probably knew anyway but I hadn't thought of it that way.

Mina, I belive it should be 2 way process.
I don't take other mehras because for Dadi she is bahu and for Alia she is Enemy and only for Abhi she is secreatry.

I agree Abhi is treating her more than secreatry and she is behaving more than a secreatry too.
It's like they are best friends mostly. They show authority on each other.

When Pragya doesn't act like just a "professional secreatry" how can I expect Abhi to treat her like that.
Ofcourse the vice versa too.



If P is treated as servant Abhi wouldn't take a breat from his media announcement and come to her when he sees her serving drinks.

Bang on when he is expected to save Pragya every time then accompanying him to shopping is not a big deal.

Any way Pragya always has a option to refuse it, Abhi is not holding her at a gun point & asking her to come with him.

I don't see the reason in saying they don't know what a secretary is when she doesn't believe herself to be one or behave herself so.. and when they don't believe her to be that either.
No Daadi will ask her pota to do so much for a secretary, or ask him to trust her so much. No boss will do so much for a secretary either.
So my understanding is that Mehras are doing way more than a boss would do for a secretary.. when they don't think of Abhi as the boss, why do they need to think of Pragya as a secretary.
