This one was long overdue. Khandelwal had his eyes set on the big screen for a long time and his fans had their fingers crossed ever since he opted out of the TRP-bagging SAB TV show Left Right Left. The heartthrob of television will act in debutant director Raj Kumar Gupta's film Amir. A thriller, the film has Khandelwal playing a Muslim professional. "I'm playing a middle-class guy who faces an unexpected situation as he lands at Mumbai airport from London. It's a realistic story," adds Khandelwal. He has no leading lady in the movie, forget his Kahiin To Hoga co-star Aamna Shariff (there were rumours of an affair and it was even thought the duo will be paired together in their first film). But with UTV funding Amir, Khandelwal's big screen debut is likely to be memorable.
