Sims, I think that there is a real discussion on class here too. There are a number of prevailing ideologies on the middle class in this story.

1. We have a passive adherence to "dignity" as espoused by Mehek's family. Here the middle class has a dignity that is all they have until it is taken away by the rich and evil. Really this is their one quality.

2. There is a notion of middle class values that is about hard work and inventiveness. Both Shaurya and Mehek have this in common. Shaurya may have moved from his middle class life via adoption, but espouses hard work. Notice he leaves the engagement because of his work. Mehek has talent, ingenuity and worked hard as well. These are the values that Shaurya admires in her because they are the same as his middle class core value system.

3. Ajay and the cousin are the "wanna be's" They want the wealth and glamour of the upper class life without the hard work. Shaurya hates them.

I think the cooking talent is a lovely one. Shaurya respects Mehek for it, but cooking has the ability to also create home and family. It is a hallmark of both a woman's ability to take care of others but also a hot business asset.

I agree with you too... After seeing yesterday's episode properly, I think earlier Shaurya used to see his dad's opportunist shadow in Mehek and hence, the immense hatred... 😒
But now I think he is seeing his mom's presence in Mehek's helplessness and situation... 🥺

Besides all that, my heart really goes out for Mehek... Poor girl, just for the sake of her Dadaji, got stuck in a lifelong commitment of shit or more like suiciding like I commented somewhere earlier. 😭

This is the stereotypical one, that Kanta & the Gramps keep harping, which Mehak tries to abide.

Tho' they come from opposite ends of the spectrum they've the same value system.I wish they would show the middle-class value system is beyond class.Karuna has the same values as Mehak .
I find Ravi Chacha interesting, he is the aspirational middle class, who want to move upwards with their street smartness, quite different from his wanna be daughter. Will be interesting to see how his character shapes up.

Did you watch the scene where Mehak answers Ajay on the terrace?.It was simple and profound. She said I just know to cook,it's my passion, hobby and thye kept hammering the point you made about how her cooking creates harmony in their family.Shauriya tho' a famous cook doesn't have the ability to craete that harmony in his dysfunctional family. They are full of wannabes with their own value system😆. Will be interesting when Mehak moves in there.

Julie, the way the Cvs have shown class and middleclass values is quite interesting, especially after last night's episode. My response in line

I agree. Yesterday Shaurya stated that the middle class people should not come to pubs. It was really out of his concern for Mehek and her naivety. He has finally understood that she cares about her modesty and is unschooled of the ways of the world.

When Mehek comes to his world she is clumsy and awkward. Think of her dancing with him or at his party. When he comes to her home he feels inferior and judged. He also feels used by the middle class because of his fame.

The show beautifully demonstrates that raw passion and talent is the bridge of the two worlds. As you said, Shaurya's passion for business cannot keep a home together, while Mehek's passion for cooking cannot give her the self-identity that she needs. But somehow both will get what they need from her cooking eventually. She needs a sense of self within her caring for others and he needs to find a person who cares for him rather than his wealth.
