He did the absolute right thing for various reasons

1. Going by the written uodate, he realises Sona had a one up and Ishwari must be feeling bad
2. He was very unwell. His mother is bound to be worried so he should go and see her as soon as he is able to

There are many ways to skin a cat. If Sonakshi was my little sister or a dear friend I would advise her to stay out of the kitchen especially for things that Dev specifically asks Ishwari to do. Dev even said it to her when the warm water tub incident happened. There are other things Sona can do. And while Sona wasn't competing, it inherently became a competition.
Newly weds make these mistakes. I wish someone could counsel them.
