Such is the lure of the entertainment field that innumerable number of people have entered the Entertainment sector leaving behind their parent businesses. Sunjoy Wadhwa is one who left his old business and is now a big name in the TV entertainment sector having formed Sphere Origin

aving exported perfumes and handicraft articles for 14 long years, Sunjoy Wadhwa turned producer and established a production house Karnik Communications in April 1997. A graduate from HR college of Commerce & Economics with a stint in Law, Wadhwa's qualifications prepared him for a business career which in fact he embarked upon as an exporter of Indian handcrafted products. He took up a full-time career in the media and entertainment industry and launched his first TV serial on Neeyat for Zee Network. He also made Phir Se a tele film for Sahara One. Wadhwa was instrumental in building up and bringing the fame of the company within a short span of three years and was a major factor in the success of the company. He completely handled all the affairs of the company, which included formatting and conceptualisation of new shows. His involvement was also in designing complete production and looking into the creative aspect of the programmes along with the writers and directors. He set up the entire business of the company in the field of television programming and extensively did quality work with the best of talent in the film and television industry. He shares a good rapport with various people who are an integral part of the film and serial production. He was the driving force behind the dynamic ideas of the company. As a TV producer, Sunjoy had almost six shows running simultaneously on different channels. Sunjoy's first launching successful venture was Neeyat on Zee TV. The subject dealt with the intricacies of the film industry along with a very strong under current emotional drama of a mother and daughter. This followed with another impressionable serial Ek Mulaqat on STAR TV, which was one of the serials selected by STAR TV when they launched their full-time Hindi programming. The family drama of high notes was based on a Rajasthan backdrop with colourful costumes and characters carrying a very bold message of surrogate motherhood. Wadhwa's Aatish that was a follow-up on STAR TV gained popularity because of its unique concept and story of two twin sisters surrounded by the mystique of planetary effect on them, making one a sinister, psychic killer. This serial won the best actress award in the Screen Awards for the year 2000. Wadhwa was instrumental in successfully launching Arth on Zee TV. It had a beautifully crafted subjects dealing with family drama and relationship of a stepmother with her kids from the first marriage of her husband. In unfolding twists and turns of tear jerking and high voltage drama storyline was very close to real life, which was impeccably handled by Sunjoy's selected team of artists and technicians to give it a perfection in technique and glossy look. The mega Arabian night fantasy and costume drama Thief Of Baghdad was well-acclaimed on Zee TV and its overseas telecast is like a feather in the cap of Wadhwa. Shot on lavish scale and large canvas this subject had one of the finest graphics and special effects. It is one of the best mounted and a successful serial produced and telecast on Zee TV.

Wadhwa expanded his company and got onto new avenue by bringing his serial Kasauti on DD-1 national network. It dealt with a dream of well knit family moving on to a big city from a small town for better prospects in life. But the hard hitting reality of big city and its concrete jungle with vicious real life human hounds over power their dreams and the family disintegrates in the mesh of so called urbanisation. It ends with the family realising the fact and moving back to their roots to find peace and solace. In 2002, Sunjoy set up his own production house Sphere Origins along with his wife Comall. Having set up the new company they took over as producers of Des Me Nikla Hoga Chand from Aroona Irani. Next to follow was Hey! Yahi To Hai Woh, Saathi Re and Betiyan-Apni Ya Paraya Dhan all for STAR One Rooh for Zee TV and D.O.N a detective series again for STAR One. Currently he has Saat Phere that completed 500 episodes last September. "Do you know that Saat Phere has got an extension for another 260 episodes, Wadhwa exclaims. Asked as to which of his serials he likes the most, Wadhwa avers," All the serials have been my babies. All I can say that I loved making them all." Today Sphere Origins is a company that is driven by great creative ideas and the inherent skill to transform them into creative products of excellence. The Company is primarily engaged in the production of television software in Hindi. Sunjoy is actively involved from the conception of an idea, developing story line, channel discussion, marketing, organising the technical team, production and creative feedback and giving an overall view to the operations of his team. And now Wadhwa is all ready to have his seven serials going on-air on various prime channels like NDTV Imagine, 9 X, STAR TV, Zee, TV 18, Sony TV. To a query as to how did he think the serial-making business would fare with so many TV channels on air and new ones coming up, Wadhwa replies, "The competition will become fiercer but I think there is scope for all because the viewer base has increased and today the viewer is distributed as per their choice of programme. This is a good time for animation, kids programming, new genre programming. This is a good time for doing different content." Talking about his future plans Wadhwa says,"I have marked 2008 as an important year and this year we will enter making of big-time movies. I have shortlisted a couple of subjects and am shortly going to announce two films. These films will necessarily be of a particular genre, but will cater to various tastes, I am also going to lay emphasis on making animation films in-house. In my other expansion plans, I also intend to set up offices and full-fledged studios that will do only animation work abroad."
