Bollywood's biggest flops in 2007

Dec 26 : After giving a brief of some successful movies that hit box office in 2007 now its time to point out some lows of Bollywood films which promised big with big brands but failed to live up to the expectations of audience and critic's appreciation.

However, as there are a number of low budget movies came in the year 2007, their loss from the point of views of success and failure in terms of box office report doesn't matter as their over all return was fair considering the larger one.

High profile names like Ram Gopal Varma, Yashraj-banner, Rani Mukherjee, Sanjay Leela Bhansali could not able to recreate their magical story telling creativity, production; so films like RGV Ki Aag, Tara Rum Pum, Saawariya fell flat in the eyes of audience.

Here's a list of some films that can be counted on the top of the flop list:

Saalam-E-Ishq (Release – Jan 26): Nikhil Advani's Salaam-e-Ishq despite a multi-starrer six-package love story and twelve talented actors like Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Priyanka Chopra, Akshaye Khanna, the film lost the ground just due to a poor conjoint of story line and also sometimes with so much different topics running side by side it only knocked down in the story telling sequence. However, the film gave a good musical experience.

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (Release - June 15): Despite having the names of Bollywood biggies like Amitabh, Abhishek Bachchan, Prity Zinta, Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta the film was only musical hit in the composition of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Director Shaad Ali only gave a glossy look and a short story with below par screenplay added to its failure.

RGV Ki Aag (Release - Aug 31): Director Ram Gopal Varma, Bollywood's most unconventional director failed to make a mark with his attempt to remake a classic like 'Sholay'. The presence of veteran actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Sushmita Sen were only good till the hype of the movie but bombed at the end.

Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (Release – Oct 12): Parinita fame director Pradeep Sarkar again made a film taking the journey of a woman but that in the absence of complete uniqueness in the story did not stand up to the height lacking the drama. The acting skill of Rani Mukherji and Konkana Sen, Kunal Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan and Anupam Kher though praiseworthy but the script somehow lacks the spark to make it a box office hit.

No Smoking (Release – Oct 26): The film directed by Anurga Kashyap and produced by Vishal Bharadwaj tried to address an important issue as the title suggests but it ended in a complete bizarre with an aimless object. It leaves audience to wonder in a dark forest without any logical end and didn't explain neither the effects of chain smoking nor impress to put down that cigarette outside the theatre after a tired and exhausted time.

Saawariya (Release – Nov 09): Bollywood's perfectionist director Sanjay Leela Bhansali known for films like 'BLACK' (2006), 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' (1999) and 'Khamoshi –The Musical' (1996) fell short this time with no mettle in the script. It only revivified the magic of Bhansali only in terms of screen presentation and a fairy tell world like visualisation. Though both newcomers Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor did their best as debut but a substance less topic was not enough.

Cash (Release – Aug 03): In Anubhav Sinha direction, the action packed thriller couldn't create any rousing sense and resulted as a loss after spending so much on cast, location and dance sequences. Though the music freak audience loved to give a first look taking the impression of its promotion trek but over all it was another box office disaster as there was nothing new in a plot less journey.
